Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The people of a Marchese's region may hold a special election to remove the Marchese from office supposing that they nominate a new individual to the position, and they win the plurality of votes over the incumbent.
A new measure has been added after Paluvedegi nearly caused a Gioven civil war where the Visconte/Vinscontessa may remove the Marchese/Marchesa under any condition.

History

The Marchese is an adaptation of the monarchs of the Gioven providences before they unified into a single country after The Eternal Dusk.

Cultural Significance

Each Marchese/Marchesa holds significant power over their elected province, acting akin to the Kings and Queens of the first era. They are notably the first democratic position held in second era verdai, and are thus celebrated by the Gioven citizenry as a sybol regarding Gioveghannis modernity in comparison to the rest of Verdai.

Notable Holders

Priscilla Vallombrosa: Current Viscontessa of Gioveghanni and previous Marchesa of Marezzura, Vallombrosa had been kidnapped by pirates in her youthful days. Rescued by the current leader of Gioveghannis Navy, Vedania Siadonnel, she leads Gioveghanni with compassion for her subjects and ruthless contempt for pirates.
Marcus Lowell: Past Marchese of Terradore and one of the few human Marchese, Marcus served a short term after being assassinated by a political rival, of who framed Lowell's fiance for the murder.
Lily: Present Marchesa of Paluvedegi, Lily was part of the adventuring party that discovered the continued existence of infamous beholder pirate known as "L'Occhio". She strives now to return Paluvedegi to high standing within the perception of the Gioven people alongside her Kobold advisor, Scrap.
Pietro and Matteo Castiglione: Another (more recent) case of political assassination, Matteo assassinated Pietro in a successful effort to take control of Paluvedegi, framing the hit as an effort from Terradore to undermine Paluvedegi's influence and spark a Gioven civil war. It was later uncovered that this was orchestrated by the beholder "L'Occhio" in an effort to destroy Gioveghanni before they could discover and destroy the beholder.
