Maren culture is highly sophisticated, the generally peaceful citizenry being free to craft the finest jewelry in Verdai. Glassblowers and clay-makers use the pressure of the ocean and the support of the water to twist strong, intricate shapes that could never be imagined above the waves. Elvish magic assists in kilning and frying when fire would not otherwise light in the depths. Additionally, with a difficulty in the musical arts outside of more percussive instruments, as well as any sort of painting, the Marens have become famed performers in theatre, of which often depicts stories of war or the supernatural with large drums backing the action.
Public Agenda
Much of Marezzura is isolationist, preferring to stay under the azure waves of Gioveghanni. The primary conflict on the mind of Marens, both culturally and politically, is the concept of Iskan (Triton) independence. Since before the first era the Iskan people have largely considered themselves as independent peoples, but after the Sea Elves of Marrezete formed their country in the First Era there has been a massive discord between the concepts of Freedom and Colonialism. After The Eternal Dusk, it seemed settled that the Iskan would be considered Maren by name, but independent in law and policy. The debate has been sparked once more after the local Maren government underwent a massive pirate problem and began demanding the Iskans their own share of taxes.
History
Marezzura used to be an independent country prior to The Eternal Dusk, but they joined with two other regional kingdoms in what is now known as Gioveghanni. Now, the Gioven Conference consists of these three states, of which Marezzura holds dominion over the waters and sea trade. Recently, heavy pirate activity has ravaged the state with highest levels of violence and pollution seen since The Eternal Dusk.
