Wizard Glass

When the 5th King, Cranough Tireste, first proposed the idea of placing essence directly into walls for domestic home use people thought their new king had gone mad. Nobody believed in the cost-effectiveness of spending essence in this way. Arena walls were already essence-cored using tonnes of The Lord's Gift , but the cost had almost bankrupted the Crown and the Imperial Balt League owners.   King Tireste had the idea of working with the Wizard Guild and their matter-manipulating Sorce practitioners to fuse essence directly into the core of the glass. The idea proved a success and now meant only several drops of essence were needed to create a domestic wall that rivalled the Viram walls of the Tremena. What followed was a revolution in house manufacturing that began in the Purista District, but thanks to essence-loans from the Vaults soon began to filter into the waves and then the strips.

Advantages of Wizard glass over conventional brick or wood houses:

  • It honours the White Lord for you to allow as much light as possible to enter your home.
  • Retains heat, keeping houses comfortably warm all year round.
  • Indestructible walls - perfect for keeping out the criminals during the night raids of the Day and Night Cycle
  • More attractive - there is something mesmeric about a glass building compared to one of stone or brick.
  • Flexibility - If you pay for the additional light-enhanced version, you can alter the glass colour on the fly.
  • Secrecy - You can turn all wizard glass to opaque to stop intruders from seeing possible targets inside the house and to give you much-needed privacy at night.
  • Build speed. A Wizard glass house, once all materials have arrived on site, can be built in just two days.

Disadvantages:

  • If you forget to engage the opaque setting, then during the night, criminals can see inside homes but cannot be seen.
  • The extravagant cost makes it a viable possibility for the well-off
  • Shortage of supplies - The lack of raw materials needed to make wizard glass constructions means only the 9 Dukess cities of Tenglan can create glass constructions. Everybody else must stick with stone constructions.

Imperial homes:

Nowadays, homes constructed of wizard glass can be found throughout all of Tenglan but are still mostly in the central and northern regions where the cold causes frequent fatalities during the winter months. For these climates, the added heat provided by the essence window panels is a lifesaver.

The Strips District

Wizard glass comes in different flavours. Single core - the cheapest variant, applicable for the Strips, comes purchased with several drops of the Lord's Essence housed inside each wall partition. This allows the owner to change the transparency of the window panels to the single-core colour they chose.

The Waves District

The larger 2 and 3-storey homes are found in the Waves, offering more expensive wall options and providing extra features like heat management, indestructible design, and an infinite supply of window panel colour cores to choose from.

The Purista District

As with most aspects of Lendorian life, the quality of the product depends on the essence you are willing to sacrifice - the higher the percentage of the Lord's gift added to the walls, the greater the flexibility of options available. For this reason, the most advanced and lavish 3-floor houses are only found in the Purista District. The picture to the left shows a Purista on the Ronus canal.

Other Uses:

Wizard glass is now the only material used as the container element of Essence coins making the previously fragile nuggets virtually indestructible.
