Zelphus

Demographics

There are four churches in Zelphus. The largest is the Temple of the Oracle, which worships the God of Divination and believes that The Oracle is an avatar of the god. Slightly smaller is the Church of Zedrena, which is an extension of the nearby Temple of Zedrena. The two smallest churches, the Church of Maglubiyet and the Church of Helm are constantly in competition. The people of Zelphus have divided themselves among the Churches.
As far as race, Zelphus is mainly Humans. However, being a big tourist site, the town has attracted many Dwarves, Halflings, Elves and even Dragonborn. The presence of Sybil Fortuna as the Lady of Zelphus has also attracted a few Tieflings.

History

Zelphus was formed in the area surrounding the Oracle's Tower to support those who were waiting to see her. It began as a small camp, and then a village, and it is now a fairly large town.
There was major panic among the townsfolk when the First Oracle died in 571 1E, as they thought her gift would be lost forever. When Daphina Whistlebottom was called, they thought it was a miracle.
When Daphina died and Azariah was called in 953 1E, she and her husband, Varralan, moved from Ishamel to Zelphus. Varralan became the Lord of Zelphus, leaving Azariah to her duties as the Oracle of Zelphus. Having an Elf as the Lord of a town was very controversial in the Kingdom of Acovia. The only reason it was allowed is because the Oracle had been so helpful for the Kingdom. 
Later, when Frodo, son of Eskel became the Oracle of Zelphus, he took over as Lord of Zelphus. When he married Lady Folja Mountainhide, she became the Lady of Zelphus. 
In 34 3E, Sybil Fortuna was called as the Oracle of Zelphus. She was the Lady of Zelphus until 48 3E, when she married Jack Fortuna and he took over.

Points of interest

In the center of town, there is a statue of Adam Firstman, Stark Mancer, Dimblewimble Bellowbreach, Mr. Green and Jasper, all of the members of Chaotic Okay that died trying to defeat The Crones Three.

Tourism

Zelphus is a big place for tourism, as people come from far and wide to have their fortunes read by the legendary Oracle. There are many taverns to support the demand.
