Edeli Sandport

One of the most iconic images of the the sands surrounding Edeli is a barge-like carriage plowing through the desert and savannahs, drawn by teams of wriggling, chitinous, horse-sized worm creatures known as Ashworms.

Native to the sands of the Pridelands, the ashworms have been utilized for centuries as beasts of burden, pack animals, and in teams to pull purpose-built barges laden with peoples and goods.

The Edeli Sandport is home to dozens of these barges, with land-borne trade as well as travelers utilizing their unique abilities to effortlessly glide amongst the entire Kingdom.

Purpose / Function

Trade and travel across the empire flourishes with the use of custom-made barges, laden with goods, migrants, immigrants, tourists, or even troops.  Without these ingenious vessels, and the native beasts to haul them, travel times throughout the Kingdom would frequently take more than a month; the speed and stamina of these animals cuts these journeys sometimes by as much as half, making it a far more practical exercise to visit every corner of the Kingdom.

Many of the barges contained within are owned by various guilds throughout the city, utilized to transport grain, reeds, and papyrus great distances, though some are used as a form of taxi service between Edeli, Twinclaw, or even points as distant as Fallenmourne for those brave enough to travel there.  For a fee, of course.

Founding Date

The sandport has existed in many forms for nearly two thousand years. It's current incarnation was erected in 197AV.
