Fornostian Steel

Fornostian Steel is a holdover from the bygone age of Fornost and The Black Empire, eons before The Old World.  Though typically useless for armor, when fashioned into a bladed weapon, it is known to be reliably sharp, never losing it's edge and remaining sharp forever.

Aside from it's sharpness, Fornostian Steel is known to be exceptionally strong (nearly indestructible by normal means) and lightweight in comparison to normal steel.

It's crafting process is unknown, and, since the destruction of Fornost, the majority of weapons made of this unique material serve as heirlooms of noble houses of Kermoria.

Like much of Fornost's recorded knowledge, the secret of forging Fornostian steel was lost in the destruction. After this point, creating new Fornostian steel weapons became impossible, so the original method can only be speculated: Some stories claim that the metal was imbued with magic spells and forged with dragon's fire, though no one can confirm or deny this.

Significance

There are only three living smiths said to be capable of melting and re-forging Fornostian Steel: Griswold Ironhammer, Master Hanzo and Argelmach Lavapike. None are capable of creating it, only re-forging that which already exists.

There are sixteen known blades throughout Kermoria forged of this unique watered-pattern steel, many that are now ornamental and will likely never see battle again. Some of the most significant are listed here.

Ice, a zwiehander on display in Ibec Hall.
Widowmaker, a longsword carried by the Lord General of the Order of The Emerald Knights.
Fiendslayer, a rapier owned by Harlan Duran.
Madness, a gladius owned by Biljar Uzim.
Hellreaver, a bladed naginata-like polearm owned by the Wasanthi Family.
