Ferrodsilit

"The Ferrodsilit clan is creepy. They keep to themselves, but really that just makes me think even more strenuously that they're absolutely hiding something. I've only spent the night in their Homestead once. Never again."   ~Earmey Chestthorne, Bawler of Alcedene   The town of Ferrodsilit is a curious mix of rustic simplicity and technological advancement. The townspeople maintain an air of stoic reserve, their eyes darting warily at outsiders. Rumors abound of ancient secrets buried beneath the town's stone streets and in the depths of Bakmadaup Ryna. The town's prosperity is based on its alchemical prowess, harnessing the unique properties of the lake water to create potent elixirs and magical artifacts. However, beneath the surface lies a web of intrigue and secrecy, tied to the mysterious Castle of Ferrodixen Suturi on the mountain peak. The town is heavily fortified, with watchtowers dotting the walls and a well-trained militia patrolling the streets. Despite their reserve, the people of Ferrodsilit fiercely guard their privacy and independence, ready to defend their town against any threat, both internal and external.

The Ferrodsilit Homestead mostly plies Mistlake for fish to eat and sell. They also maintain a small kelp farm used for making Potions of Ablution, and possess one vessel equipped to dredge the deeper parts of the lake for salt.

Infrastructure

A series of gently sloping jetties made from large slabs of stone are polished smooth with grooved tracks to slide fish-laden boats into and out of the water.   A public smokehouse has been built to preserve the fish taken from the lake.

History

The Ferrodsilit Homestead predates Neklek, into which it has been incorporated. While the actual origins of it are a mystery, it has been attested as far back as the time of Iliac and the Scalepurge. If the locals have a written or oral history, they haven't shared it with anyone in living memory.

Points of interest

  • Castle of Ferrodixen Suturi: This ancient structure perches on top of the mountain opposite the town, shrouded in mist and mystery.
  • Alchemy Guild Hall: This imposing building is the heart of Ferrodsilit's alchemical prowess, where masters experiment with the strange properties of the lake water.
  • Temple of the Gold Dragon: A modest shrine dedicated to Ferrodixen Suturi.
  • The Silent Fisherman: A quaint tavern situated on the waterfront, known for its fresh catch and lively stories told by fishermen returning from the depths of Bakmadaup Ryna.
  • Tourism

Folks sometimes visit the village in order to explore or enjoy the Bakmadaup Ryna. The Ferrodsilit clan has entirely failed to even attempt to take advantage of this possible windfall, preferring instead to grudgingly accept the presence of outsiders and see them off as soon as possible.

    Architecture

The homestead is built from large, irregular stone blocks fitted carefully together and covered with much less permanent blue-clay tile roofing. The bulk of the clan lives in four longhouses. A circle of moss covered standing stones marks the center of the homestead.

    Geography

Located in the marshy slope between the Great Grass Ocean and the Bakmadaup Ryna, the whole town is on a gentle slope so gradual that one wouldn't notice it until they dropped a barrel and saw it roll to the water's edge. The surrounding area is grassland for miles.
