Males get the broader and start to grow beard at the age of 50.
Females keep their youthful appearance till the age of 100. Then they too start to get broader and at the age of 150 their hair starts to grow at increasingly fast rate. Some say, "To match the beards of the men."

Ecology and Habitats

Dwarves are mostly underground dwellers. They prefer to build their cities close to the nature. Which for them is earth, stone, mountain. Thus their 3 cities are: Below the mountain, next to the mountain and underground near the mountain.
They have chosen the Steel Mountain as their main habitat due to its abundance of minerals. Due to their mining nature dwarves have to not only mine the minerals but also rejuvenate the mountain or quickly they would run out of the resources.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves love meat and beer. Especially a beer. You won't see a dwarf without a keg at home.
They also have no drinking age and are particularly resistant to the effects of the alcohol. Not that they can't get drunk. They just need more.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Dwarven society is composed of clans. Each clan has their specialty. Members of a clan are considered a family. Though it is possible to change clans if you prove yourself worthy to join another it is generally not very well received by the clan that you are leaving. The way to change clans without any grudges however is by marriage.
When they marry the couple can choose to either join the clan of the husband or that of the wife. The bigger the clan the more important its vote in the dwarven council.   Dwarven council is composed of the head of each clan. Most important decisions are made by the council and require a majority vote.   Currently the most influential clans are: Clan ForgeswornClan Fissureheim, Clan Alderale, Clan Armbuster and Clan Titanhammer.

Facial characteristics

They have soft facial features when young that get more rugged and broad as they age. Some consider that this makes Dwarves uglier with age but the Dwarves themselves think the opposite. They love their broad faces and find them beautiful.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Although dwarves have their own cities populated mostly by them, it's not rare to see dwarves in other towns around the world.

Average Intelligence

Dwarves aren't particularly more or less intelligent than other species but they do have a better knowledge in anything concerning ground and minerals. This education has made them into master blacksmiths and excellent miners.

As mentioned above the society is composed of clans.   The major clans are: Clan Forgesworn who is responsible for most in both quantity and quality crafting in the dwarven cities
Clan Fissureheim who oversees most mining operations and work to rejuvenate the mountain.
Clan Alderale are the main brewers of dwarven society. You can be sure that if you give trouble to them other dwarves will be quick to beat you down.

Beauty Ideals

Dwarves find their broadness, be it in body or face, attractive. The long beards and hair are also a frequent beauty standard. Although broad is beautiful, it doesn't mean fat. Dwarves cherish their bellies but also their muscles. An obese dwarf would be scorned by others.
Dwarves find the beardless, slender Elves ugly. And don't even get them starting about the Sheit. They don't even have hair!

When dwarves form a couple it's usually for life. Though the women usually stay at home they are also the ones who Rule in the family. If the wife says something the husband obeys, mostly.  The dwarven family is warm and peaceful. Feeling almost as your ideal welcoming household.

History

Timeline

Throughout the ages Dwarves have co-inhabited Dragonlaw with Dragons. Though the relations between the two races haven't always been as peaceful as they are now.     Around 9000 years ago an all out war between Dragons and Dwarves was waging on Dragonlaw. The war was due to tyrannical nature and ambitions of the dragon king that ruled at that time, Pandora. Dwarves were almost wiped out and it was only thanks to dragons themselves that the war ended. A decade later a truce was declared and dwarves were gifted an artifact capable of contradicting the Dragon King's authority, The Law, as a sign of good intentions.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dwarves aren't very found of Elves or Fairies. They find these creatures, too frail and often lazy. They also find their appearance ugly.   Sheit is a slightly different story. Although physically dwarves don't like them they acknowledge their personality and lifestyle. They would also love to get their hands on the secrets of Sheit blacksmiths.   Dragons are their neighbors so as often with neighbors the relationships are everchanging. Although currently the two races are on good terms and help each other out in case of need. In the past they waged war. Though most time the two races keep to themselves and don't bother each other.   Human are a peculiar case cause dwarves don't agree about their opinion on them. Some feel like they are like elves, frail and lazy while others find them strong willed and hard working.   Spirits are regarded with respect in most cases. Especially the dwarven ones.   Gnomes and Gremlins are well regarded and there is actually a significant gnome population among dwarves.
