Session 0: Ragtag Beginnings

3 Eleasias/August, 1485

General Summary

Our journey begins in the Village of Goldenfields, a walled farming community dedicated to Chauntea the goddess of agriculture, and located roughly 120 miles outside of the great City of Waterdeep. Here, inside the Goldengulp Brewery a curious gnome named Catnip Nodelkiir, ponders the thoughts of recent memories of past friends and adventures to the north. Her party attempted to rid the land in the foothills of the Spine of the World called the Forge of Fury, but quickly found themselves out numbered and outmatched. Two of the party members were either captured or killed, and at that time they had realized that they could suffer no further losses. Catnip left the Forge of Fury and decided to head south, back to the lands she was more comfortable and familiar with. She couldn’t help but to wonder if coming north in the first place was a mistake… However, the light hearted las never reveled in self-pittance for long and often found herself following her nose into directions in which she created her own adventure.   Here in the Goldenfield’s Catnip was enjoying the season’s Fall Harvest Festival, helping here and there with the celebration. During the tenday spent in the village, Catnip made friends with a woman named Veradda Stoor, a retired famed treasure hunter who had quite the reputation in this village where she resided. Being a sucker for tales of adventure, Catnip and Veradda became close friends and enjoyed their time spent together, all the while swapping stories and sharing laughs.   Veradda came to share with Catnip the whereabouts of a treasure hoard left behind by acolytes from the Cult of the Dragon. As the Cult of the Dragon’s plan to summon Tiamat to this world unraveled, members of the Cult hid its amassed wealth in caches throughout the Sword Coast, hoping to keep it safe until they needed it again. The Greypeak Mountains, near the village of Parnast, was a hotbed of Cult of the Dragon activity, and Veradda knew of a few caches that were secured there.   The curious gnome couldn’t help but to try and convince Veradda to join her in search for this long lost treasure. At long last, the old fighter agreed to accompany Catnip along the Iron Road to the Greypeak Mountains to the east and entertained the thought of another adventure. Enjoying their final night at the Goldengulp Brewery, the two newfound friends welcomed the coming dawn, and were eager to set out once again. Catnip was sitting at the end of the long table when a familiar old face approached. Willy Greenbough was a simple man, not much too him. He often minded his own business and had never really gone far from his farm until recently. With the passing of his late wife, Sheila, he decided to leave the farm behind and explore the world. Catnip had stayed at his farm several years back and had actually grown very close with his wife Sheila. Willy didn't really recognize Catnip at first, however the two rekindled their acquaintance over a few drinks.   As the night went on, there was a group of four individuals down at the end of the table that were making quite a ruckus. Veradda, a keeper of the peace, didn't appreciate the rowdy bunch and decided to ask them to settle down. The group consisted of a large Bugbear named Kadzurak, a blue outlandish air genasi foreigner named Zephyr, a tall female furbolg named Tanye Norella, and a young stout halfling named Tidy Bophill. The party squared off in a drinking competition, the losing team owing the winning team a favor. The rowdy group of mercenaries managed to win and demanded that they bring them along on their treasure hunt in the Greypeak Mountains. Tanye and Tidy had other business to tend to in Waterdeep and so they parted ways with their friends that coming morning.   And so, the odd ragtag group of adventures made their way east along the Iron Road to the Greypeak Mountains in hopes of finding riches and adventure...
