Zavien David des Lauriers (a.k.a. Zavi)
Zavien is a shy but confident high school student at Temple Valley High School and a star athlete on the high school swim team. Keeping mostly to himself at school, he enjoys spending time with his best friend and neighbor Caleb Grimm. Zavien is also a musically gifted young man who can play almost any instrument he picks up. But as an accomplished young pianist with a pitch-perfect ear, he quickly earned the respect and admiration of his church community and friends.
At age 13, his pastor, Glenn Darrow, invited him to join the Grace Fellowship Praise and Worship Band. Zavien quickly fell in love with the more active church role and enjoyed sharing his musical talents with his church community. At age 16, when the Praise and Worship Band leader moved way, Pastor Glenn offered the leadership role to Zavien, who eagerly accepted the role and flourished.

Recognizing he was different from other boys at a young age, Zavien silently acknowledged his attraction to boys around the age of 14 when he accidentally stumbled upon two older boys engaged in an intimate act in the high school's locker room. The moment horrified, fascinated, stunned, and aroused him. As self-realization dawned within his being, he acknowledged but denied and similarity to the two homosexual boys, understanding the harsh consequences in store for him should his family or church ever discover his dirty little secret.

Family Ties
Zavien's mother is Rena des Lauriers. Zavien's non-religious father insisted on his unique name, despite his mother's protests that it wasn't a Christian name. They divorced shortly after Abigail was born, citing irreconcilable differences.
Zavien has one sister, Abigail. She also attends Temple Valley High School and is a sophomore.
