Centennial Comet

The Centennial Comet, also known as Sora's Comet or Matrimonia, is a comet visible every century above Materia. Its most recent passing was in 1098.

History

Ancient sources suggest the Centennial Comet has been observed since the time of the War of the Gods, before mundane creatures existed in Materia. The comet contains a huge amount of magical energy, which influences the world during its passing in a number of ways. One such way that has been observed is that the passing of the comet seems to bring Materia closer to the outer planes such as the Nine Hells for a time.
Religious texts from the churches of Pelor and Erathis contain accounts of the divine couple initially arriving to Materia traveling via the comet. The Ascan-speaking world thus refers to it as Matrimomia, and it is seen as a symbol of divine marriage.
Shou-speaking cultures generally refer to the comet as Sora's Comet, after mythohistorical accounts of Sora Anzai breaking of piece off of it during its passing to slay Asmodeus during the War of the Nine Hells.
