Sora Anzai
Founder Sora Anzai
Sora Anzai is the founder of the Anzai Dynasty, the Shou Empire, and early follower of the Way. She was a First One who led the anti-Infernal faction of the War of the Nine Hells.
Dynasty
The Anzai Dynasty remains a prominent family in Shou politics as one of the Five Dynasties that rule Shou lands in the modern era. Sora's power still runs through the veins of many an Anzai child, with prominent Anzai sorcerers arising with every new generation.Mythohistory
Many fantastical tales are told of Sora, but primarily she is depicted as a fearsome sorcerer. As one of the few prominent First Ones to survive past the age of the gods, she shaped the human race through her founding of the Anzai Dynasty and spreading of the Way. Sora was a self-proclaimed enemy of all fiends, and their corrupting moral influence on Materia, often traveling to the Abyss, and the Nine Hells in search of their weaknesses. She worked towards banishing their influence from Materia through creation of a Cardinal Urn, an artifact which allegedly held the power to entirely remove fiendish corrupting influences from the denizens of Materia. Her plot culminated in a battle with a weakened Asmodeus, Lord of the Nine Hells, circa 3000 BA. She vanquished him by bringing part of the Centennial Comet down from the heavens to smite him, creating Abyssus, the Sea of a Thousand Shards, and the Asmodian Trench. Permanently weakened from the battle, her victory was pyrrhic in nature. She was soon betrayed by Feyrith Elro, an Elf, and her Cardinal Urn was shattered and scattered to the corners of the world. While she was not slain immediately, her power continued to decline afterwards, and she perished within a century - binding her soul to her holy sword Seiken for thousands of years. Widespread outrage among humans at Feyrith's actions resulted in the early Shou-Elvish Wars, turning her beloved Shou people into conquerors as they seized Elvish heartlands for themselves.Legacy
Since Sora's time, the Shou people and their heartlands have grown to be some of the most prosperous in the world, with the safe heartland of the Shou Empire being home to population dense metropolises such as Teikyou and Seito. While political turmoil remains a threat, native Shou people are born into what is most likely one of the safest places in Materia. The Way, and its tenets, have also seen adoption on a large scale. Along with the heartlands of the Shou empire, The Way and its syncretistic offshoots are practiced in Toniva, The Jardan Steppe, and Hayasaki.
