War of the Nine Hells

The War of the Nine Hells was a divine conflict led by First Ones to attempt to repel Infernal influence on Materia and recapture the Original Sin via the construction of the Cardinal Urn.

Background

As the strife introduced by the War of the Gods wore on, Sora Anzai identified that it would soon be too late to repel the infernal influence gripping Materia, due to the waning divinity of the First Ones. Thus, she petitioned her former companion, the newly ascended Goddess Melora to help her secretly construct a magical artifact, the Cardinal Urn, to recapture the Original Sin.

Conflict

As Sora's effort picked up steam, Asmodeus learned of the effort, and accused Melora of breaking a divine non-intervention contract amongst true gods for affairs in Materia by helping Sora. Eventually, this led to an infernal invasion of Materia leading to a battle between a weakened Asmodeus and Sora, which she miraculously won. Unfortunately, she was soon betrayed by her subordinate Feyrith Elro and the urn was destroyed.
