Bratislen
The former capital of Snadov and one of the largest cities in the realm. From within it's walls lie the White Keep, a legendary castle which was ruled by several kings and queens of the past.
Along with
Kronstad,Sarusa and Umera, Bratislen is one of the oldest and most important settlements recorded in history, given it's strategical position, fertile fields and remarkable architecture.
Regarding it's location, Bratislen lies in the middle of the Plains of Asmund, over the junction of the rivers Wujek and Sobota, which makes it easier to defend it against any invading armies while also having great cultivable land, in which the peasants usually sow rice, asparagus and corn, which make up the diet of many of the city's inhabitants. About a mile west to the city, large woods stretch all the way around the guardian peaks, which tower above the landscape as far as the eye can see, and so, the forests provide good amount of lumber and game for the nobility while the mountains offer great opportunities for the building of mines, specially those of copper, tin and silver, but lacking significantly in iron and gold.
Districts
-
The city is organized in two main districts:
- the inner city, protected behind the white walls and connected to the southern lands through several bridges.
- the outer city, which extends in all directions across the plains in a mixture of residential areas and farmlands.
History
Bratislen (from Engelian Bratis-Len: Rivers-Between) was founded during the reign of Engelia as an administrative and strategical center to better coordinate the southern lands, serving as an almost impenetrable fortress. Although it has been besieged in the past, Bratislen was never conquered by any invading army.
Points of interest
Albeit nothing compared to the
The Red Citadel, Bratislen harbours the famous "Vaults of Bratislen", an enormous library and academy structured beneath the White Keep, holding books that date all the way back to the days of the Empire. Moreover, akin to Umera, the city's walls are adorned with several statues that tower over the battlements, depicting men with their arms extended, an allegory to mankind effort of keeping darkness outside of its white walls.
Architecture
The architecture of the city is, like Umera, built in stone, almost always of the white color. The buildings are sturdy and columns and arches can be seen everywhere, a heritage from the Empire.
