Miami

Vampires

The Miami metropolitan area supports around six million people, one of the most densely populated cities in the southeastern United States. In most Camarilla cities, there is roughly a ratio of one vampire for every 100,000 mortals before the Masquerade is considered endangered, in Sabbat cities the scale varies broadly and erratically. The long urban cluster along Florida's Atlantic shore tends to support up to 200 vampires before competition for prey and run-ins with mortal authorities become problematic.   When overpopulation becomes a problem, Miami's Sabbat launch Crusades to the north to cull the fledgling ranks. Even with such methods, Miami is the bridge between the United States and the Caribbean (and, to an extent, Latin America), and there is always a stream of transient vampires who pass through the area. Most never bother to secure permission from the Archbishop, but Mendoza does not begrudge them this unless they abuse his presumed hospitality. If they do, his punishment is swift and merciless, grisly messages to other would-be troublemakers. Just as Florida's Gold Coast draws human tourists, the Sabbat packs of North America often come on their own bloody holidays to their sect's Sodom and Gomorrah.

The covens of Detroit see their Miami brethren as soft and weak, but nevertheless enjoy the sex, drugs, and violence on offer there. While the Noddist scholars of Montreal despair of Miami as a colossal waste, those who are immersed in the prostitution and sex-oriented industries find much to enjoy along with the tropical climate. Nomadic packs often “winter in Miami,” slang for following the tourists who flood the region, ensuring there is enough food to go around. Also, since South Florida is a cul-de-sae, it is easy enough to do a circuit of the coast in a few nights, leaving behind a trail of carnage. The Sabbat of Latin America treat Miami as a tolerable dosage of Yankee “culture,” far enough from their haciendas to provide a change of scenery, but close enough to their fiefdoms to offer a sense of security. Many Latin American Lasombra luminaries pay homage to Mendoza, more out of tradition than respect.   Unlike Camarilla Kindred, who tend to feel a sense of clan affinity as well as sect loyalty, the center of the Sabbat vampire's world is the pack. Except for the Lasombra, who happen to be Miami's ruling class.

Changelings

Kingdom of the White Sands (Florida)

The Kingdom of White Sands consists solely of the state of Florida. Queen Morganna of House Gwydion rules her small realm from Caer Flamingo, in Florida’s southern tip, near Miami.   She faces a constant struggle with raiders from the Fiefs of Bright Paradise as well as the Nunnehi who claim the Everglades as their land (or what’s left of it).

Duchy of Sun and Sand

Southern Florida, including the Miami metropolitan area, has one of the most diverse changeling populations in the kingdom. A considerable number of commoners, displaced from other parts of Concordia (and, indeed, other parts of the world) migrate here, drawn by the area’s reputation for a carefree, relaxed atmosphere and the warm climate. To the fae residents of this place, the Long Winter seems very far away.

Fiona sidhe Duchess Carmen Juarez, the oath-sworn friend of Queen Morganna, rules this duchy from Caer Biscayne, a Spanish-style mansion in Coconut Grove. Caer Flamingo, the flamboyant residence of Queen Morganna, features pale coral adobe walls, an inner courtyard and pool, lush gardens, and some resident flamingos from which the freehold takes its name. A number of commoner motleys have holdings on or near the beaches and in the inner city. Regardless of their politics or courts, nobles and commoners alike assist when they can in protecting their lands from the Glamour raiders of Paradise.   The most populous freehold in all of Florida is located in Little Havana, at the El Pequeño Soñador Bar and Restaurant.
