Second Crown Prince Eärnur
The Erudite Blade Elendilion
Neither the soldier his father is, nor the diplomat his
brother trains him to be, Second Prince Eärnur is yet unprepared for the harshness of Angmar. A student of Dúnadan
history, Eärnur is gradually accumulating knowledge in
all areas he thinks might be appropriate to the rule of Arnor alongside his brothers; along the way, he is methodically building up his
influence with the grey-haired seers and advisors at court.
Eärnur shares the courts and his uncles views concerning the need for
patience and perseverance in the war against the Witchking rather than his father and brothers desire for open war. though he defends Arveleg fiercely in council. He practices
diplomacy among the Irnil of Cardolan, more as a training
exercise than out of any real hope of accomplishment.
Eärnur travels as far south as Tharbad several times
a year on errands he hopes will bring some unity and
common sense to the Princes the "Lords Brigand," as he
calls them of that chaotic land.
Well over six and a half feet tall, handsome, wellspoken,
and graceful, Eärnur is every inch the Prince, but,
as he has himself said, "not necessarily what one would
want as King." Self-mocking, soft-voiced, and carefully
studious of both books and men, he has been able to divine
much about the current plot against the crown, in spite of
his privileged, somewhat isolated status. Eärnur gets along well with his father, and brothers whose somewhat distant manner he attributes to the overwhelming responsibilities they share.
Unusually for a
noble Arthadan, he has kept mistresses in the past; he is on
friendly terms with them and uses the more observant as
sources, even the one he knows to be a Cardolani spy. Recently he has been forced by King Arveleg to wed the mother of Eleventh Prince Annatheldyn to legitimize him. Though a commoner of split blood Lúthienna of the Sarn Ford stands tall and stately, a sophisticated woman of intelligence and wisdom, she beamce the mother of his three sons.
