Alistair's father was killed in front of him when he was young. He was an alchemist, who brought him along on one particular trip. They joined the crew of The Purity on a search for the rare
Celestial Flower, an alchemical ingredient with potent and powerful healing effect. When his father encountered a village under attack by strange soldiers, he intervened. His crew was no match for these men, known as the
The Ki Shaar. They were killed. They got between the men and their search for a Celestial Flower. The Ki Shaar killed Alistair's father before his eyes. Something ignited inside of Alistair that day. He always knew he was different, but the rage inside of him triggered something. From him shown a bright light, as celestial white wings burst from his back. He fought back several of the Ki Shaar, who were ready to kill him when a man stopped them. Their leader,
Sojiro spared him, seeing potential for a powerful pupil. He dubbed him Tengu Kenshin and took him back to the Truant, the home of the Ki Shaar.
In the years that followed, Alistair became acquainted with the daughter of his master. Her name was
Sakura Kenshin and the pair became close. In his training, he learned the ways of the Ki Shaar and became a formidable swordsman. Sojiro became his surrogate father.
When Alistair became older, he began to notice that Sojiro's quest for the rare flower was overtaking the teachings of the Ki Shaar. His methods were cruel and harsh. He grew ever vigilant in this quest until one day, Alistair had reached the end of his rope when ordered to slaughter a village. He confronted Sojiro about his killing of innocent people. Sojiro called him a traitor and prepared to kill him, when his daughter stopped him. Using the distraction to his advantage, Alistair cut off Sojiro's left hand and fled the Ki Shaar.
A few weeks later, Alistair arrived in
Griner's Burrow to make use of a town teleportation circle. The town guard would soon decommission it but allowed citizen use beforehand. He stepped onto the circle with two other men, all with the goal of pursuing their own fates. A strange mishap with the portal sent the trio into a mysterious cavern. There, they were set upon by underdark creatures. They handily fought them back, but heard a strange voice from below. It echoed in their minds. Then, just as suddenly as they were sent through the portal, they were sent back to Griner's Burrow. Interested in the events that they had experienced, they were beckoned to
Idenmount to discuss the event with
Dithas Legran, the Head of
House Legran.
Alistair became acquainted with the two men,
Wornal Freerunner and
Lucyan Blackfyre. They found work in the city and decided to work together for a time, quickly becoming wrapped in the business of the Rhorellian Empire.
The trio's work led them to participate in the Battle of
Rhidilia which gave them an audience with the Emperor himself,
Percerian Rhorellian.
Alistair's past haunted him. The
The Ki Shaar continued to hunt him down and it wasn't long before Alistair returned to
Merriby East to take
Sakura Kenshin back. He had learned that she was to be married to a new pupil,
Zora. Alistair's return was not met warmly. Sojiro said that Sakura had gone missing and asked Alistair to help him find her. A trek into the jungle led them to the Temple of the Wingless, where Sojiro's true intentions became apparent. He had been collecting Celestial Flowers and using them as part of a ritual that required
Aasimar. All he needed was the petrified body of Alistair and his plans would be complete.
Alistair and his partners were prepared to fight to the death, but Sojiro had a trick up his sleeve. He had made a deal with
Halis Reincarnate , a demigod. Halis was prepared to assist Sojiro in his fight, but cut a separate deal with Alistair, Lucyan, and Wornal. They agreed to cash in a favor at a later date, and a big one at that. Seeing as they had no other options, they took the deal. The party fought Sojiro and Zora. Alistair killed Sojiro, but spared Zora in hopes that he would see the error of his ways. He was only infuriated. The Ki Shaar threatened to hunt Alistair down and forced him out.
A second showdown with Zora led Alistair with no option but to kill him after he revealed that the Ki Shaar were no more.
His involvement with the party, who became known as
The Outcasts, continued until their eventual efforts led to the start of a second Halian War. Alistair decided to part ways with the party. His goals were not to assist the empire, but rather to seek his own fate. He boarded the Doubt's Drift and set sail, leaving behind all that he knew once more.
