Tanner Charsage
Tanner Charsage, the adolescent, resourceful heir to the Charsage Elf mercantile empire of the city of Bristar. The Charsage family sent their son, Tanner, and a few other members of the family to Mythrite the instant word got out that there was wealth to be made. Tanner had everything to prove to his family, having been unreliable in the past when it came to extending their business. Though he was a century old, he was still quite young for an elf and 100 years without success can take its toll.
He moved to the Reverie with the rest of the elves to seek familiarity away from the dangers of the wilderness in a new home. This home felt safe from the lack of formal protection available in Mythrite. He had all the resources he needed to start a high-end cloth and spice shop full of exotic, plant-based goods. Tanner was set for success so long as he followed the guidance of his elders. This wasn’t good enough for Tanner, he wanted to prove he could produce something from the mithril found in the new town that would make his family more wealthy and regain his father’s trust in his decisions. Being an elf, freedom to wander was everything to Tanner. With his father always watching, he rarely felt free.
He spent several weeks in Mythrite following his father’s plan for the shop. He made quite a bit of money as expected, selling protective, warm, but light mining clothing for the Miners going into the mithril mines. He also traded for the mithril they procured with any of the overstock he had from his father overestimating the frequency of business to be expected. Being the resourceful elf that he is, he managed to upsell many of the items in order to cover any discrepancies in his trade log regarding the missing goods traded for mithril. By doing so he was able to amass a fair amount of the ore. The only issue was what to do with it now that he had it.
Tanner took to the streets of Mythrite with some friends searching for inspiration. He spent much of his time out of the shop, letting the business take a bit of a hit in his absence. Then he happened upon a dwarf drinking wine. He joked, “Dwarves and wine? I’ve never seen the two in harmony!” That’s when he discovered the wine shop of Julia Longvine. Upon squeezing his way into the small door, he realized he found his answer to what he needed to do with all that mithril: distill a wine that makes the drinker feel stronger than steel. From that day forward, he tried every method he could to obtain the halfling’s technique. She declined to give any information. He became obsessed to a point where his own shop began to suffer from his inattentiveness. Another failure, yet to him it was a necessary risk to gain his father’s approval. Mythrite is his new beginning.
