Siren

Long ago a wandering tribe of Merfolk allowed their curiosity to lead their wandering into the blackest places of their vast ocean and there, in the darkness of The Depths, the Mermaids of the tribe were were agonizingly warped and transformed, by the Twisting Dark that lingers within those caverns, into violent mockeries of their former selves. The mermaids forgot most of their sapience, they forgot most their language and lost all sense of empathy or love. They were meer shadows of themsleves, more akin now to murderous sharks than their sapient kin, and like sharks the sirens seek only to eat and destroy.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Despite their transformation Siren's anatomy remains very similar to their Less Violent Kin and many of the changes brought on by the Twisting's are small adapations that allow sirens to hunt better than other Merfolk. The most notable visual differences are the Sirens' grayish skin, deep gray-green scales, narrower eyes, and pointed frills along their back and arms. While the more functional but less obvious anatomical differences consist of the sirens' sharper teeth, elongated claws, and shark-like dorsal fin.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Siren Song

Although their hypnotic song is by far the siren's most notorious trait, they do not use this ability to eat as common belief dictates, The truth is that sirens diets consit mainly of fish, crabs, and other small sea creatures like all Merfolk and a siren's song is largely a defesne mechanism meant to allow her to incapacitate any threat she cannot escape from but becuase Sornan do possess a strong need for sentinet flesh, the sirens of a sornan's pack are often forced to use thier song to lure saliors to into the sea where their they can then gather the bodies and feed them to their pack leader.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Due to The Depths transdimensional properties Sirens have been discovered in every realm but because most immortals exterminate such creatures warped by the Twisting Dark on sight Siren's can only survive for long within the Mortal Realm or in within the unforgiving envoirment of The Depths themselves.

Average Intelligence

Although the Twisting has stripped them of most of their speech and much of their sapient intelligence Sirens remain some of the most strategic hunters in the ocean. They almost always travel in close nit packs commaned by a single Sornan - although independent female packs do exist - that know each other so well that they can seemlessly adept to any threat or unexpected change in prey. They are rarely caught off gaurd and once the pack starts hunting, nothing can outsmart them. on rare occasions they even make use of simple tools.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Although they share their bioluminescence with their more shallow-watered cousins Siren Merfolk possess a more muted, less diverse, gray-green color palette than their rainbow clad kin which allows them to stay more effectively hidden from both prey and predator within The Depths.
