Elf

Though they are one of the more powerful Good species, elves are a reserved species that generally only interact with other Good nations on a diplomatic level. They are the only Good species that cannot fly; however, their strong magical powers more than make up for the lack of flight. They generally reside in the Elven Kingdom in the north. There are two general divisions of elves, Elemental Elves and Nature Elves, as well as the lost race of Seasonal Elves.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Elves are highly similar in form to humans. However, they have more angular features, more elongated forms, and pointed ears.   Elves' skin tones are similar to the range of human skin tones. They have a wider range of eye colors, however, with purple, pink, and light orange eyes also possible.

Genetics and Reproduction

Reproduction works identically to humans. Elves can reproduce with other elves, Fairies, Pixies, and Sprites.

Growth Rate & Stages

Elves mature slightly faster than humans during childhood and slower once they reach adulthood. The age of adulthood among fairies is generally 20 years. Fairies can live well over 200 years, twice the age of most other Good species.

Ecology and Habitats

Elves prefer to live in heavily forested areas, preferably with some hills or mountains.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Elves are omnivorous, generally hunting animals from birds and squirrels to larger game such as deer. They will both farm and gather a variety of plants for food.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Elves are a social species with one another and live in organized groups, typically large villages to cities. In both larger and smaller structures, Elves naturally create hierarchies within their own. Elders and the educated are valued most highly; however, children, who are relatively rare in Elven society, are also respected, and generally mentored by the community as a whole.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Elves have the ability to control natural elements. There is some overlap between @Nature Elves and @Elemental Elves, though the two still have distinct abilities. Nature Elves can have control over water, plants, air, earth, or the ability to communicate with animals. Elemental Elves can have control over water, earth, fire, or air.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Similar to Sprites and Flower Fairies, Elf names take elements from the natural world. Unlike them, however, Elves will combine multiple elements into a single name. Surnames, which are passed down to children, are also typically less recognizable as natural elements, and may not be at all, as they can be Old Elven names, which follow different naming rules that are no longer used. There is typically no distinction between male and female names.

Major Organizations

The majority of elves live within the Elven Lands.

Gender Ideals

Elves, though they have distinct genders, are generally androgynous. Hair length, clothing, and accessory preference are no different between genders.

Average Technological Level

Elves have a level of technology roughly equivalent with the later Middle Ages to Renaissance of Europe of the human world.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

As Elven children grow, for each year of their life, they are traditionally given a piercing, ring, or other piece of jewelry (depending on the specific culture). Once they have reached 20 years of life, and 20 pieces of jewelry, they are considered an adult, and will typically wear those pieces of jewelry for the rest of their life.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Elves are a social species with one another; however, their relationships with other species never become more than alliances. There are a few occasional cases of Elves having children with other species; however, Elf interbreeding with other species is much rarer than Fairy or Pixie interbreeding.
