Church of Aldt
Divine Origins
Prior to the refounding of the Church of Aldt in 3860 EC by The Scholar of the Ruby Crusaders, the deity and religion had been nearly forgotten, and the worship of Aldt had been done only by a few rare individuals. The first modern church was built in Iccot with the aid of an individual known as The Scholar, who reinvigorated interest in the old god.
Thanks to Iccot's status as a major trade port, the religion has spread beyond the city walls, and boasts a small but far reaching following.
Cosmological Views
The teachings of the church state that Aldt is one of the original ancient gods who helped form the laws the govern existence. While other ancients created the constellations, wove the heat of stars out of cosmic energy, Aldt quietly worked on their contribution - making it possible for mortal life to function.
Though other deities brought life itself into the world, filling worlds with fantastical creatures, the nature of life itself laid solely in Aldt's domain. Long after the other ancients concluded creating their masterpieces, Aldt continued to make infinitesimally small changes to the laws that governed life and death, as they do to this day.
Ethics
In striving to be like Aldt, the followers of the church strive to achieve perfection through balance. They are typically slow to anger and slow to change, but steadfast in their resolve. Failures are seen as important learning moments, and triumphs are always downplayed as an important piece of a greater puzzle.
Priesthood
Priests of the religion taken on roles as advisors and professors of the teachings of Aldt. Through careful study of the sacred texts, its clergy have achieved magical abilities and often become expert healers, though few can say they have communed with their deity themselves. Some claim their powers simply come from the greater understanding they have about the laws of existence, while others insist they are granted a spark of the divine to aid Aldt in their balancing.
Political Influence & Intrigue
Most Aldt churches try to have a say in the governing of the city they reside in, to better form a balanced society. Those with more sway even prototype their plans with smaller towns, testing what works and what doesn't. As a result, cities are generally reluctant to give them funds that they feel will be squandered, but pay attention when the church insists they have found an ideal solution.
Some more traditional cities shun the church's worship of an ancient deity, and prefer instead of stand by their modern pantheon of gods who answer their call. The church has also found it difficult to gain followers in locations with low rates of literacy and poor education due to the complex nature of Aldt's holy texts.
Sects
Of Aldt's holy books, three are in possession of Churches of Aldt - the Codices of Bond, Deconstruction, and Fear. Each church varies slightly thanks to the in-depth study they do on each book.
The Iccotian church hold the Codex of Bond, while the Huilan Guo church holds the Codex of Deconstruction, and the Codex of Fear is kept by a small church in a distant land.
