Elemental Shields

Standard Overshields are always Ballistic. However, Elemental Shields differ, having a variety of defensive qualities. Many enemies intrinsically have Elemental Shields that provide additional defense against certain Elemental Damage. Players will need to carefully decide what equipment and skills to use and invest in to best overcome these opponents.   Occasionally, players can choose to acquire Elemental Shields that specialize in certain types of damage resistance, or to use Weapons or Abilities that inflict multiple types of damage to bypass others. Additionally, Elemental Shields and weapons can be upgraded to improve their efficacy.

Efficacy

Each elemental damage type has elements they are particularly effective or ineffective against.   Force and Interference attacks are not affected by any type of Overshield.   The only type of shielding that doesn’t correspond to a damage type directly are Barrier which are additional shielding added to an existing Overshield. No damage types are intrinsically effective or ineffective against Barriers.

Effects

Whenever a player’s Overshield is broken, they suffer an instant 1% Battery Charge loss and are susceptible to additional damage from Ballistic attacks. Additionally, if the shield is broken using a matching damage element, it will burst, causing a damaging explosion of that element equivalent to 10% of the target’s total Overshield health within two meters. They also will begin to take damage directly to their Health. Bursting Elemental Shields can be particularly potent if there are multiple targets with similar shields in close proximity as the initial shield burst can cause a chain reaction of Elemental Shield explosions.

PvE & PvP

Elemental Shields are prevalent in PvE Activities against AI enemies. Most players will not have Elemental Shields types so much as they will have different damage resistances and resistance values.
