Health
Players are protected by their
Guardian Frame's Armor as well as their built-in Overshield generators. Overshields act as a protective layer that absorbs incoming damage, protecting the Frame behind it. Once an Overshield has taken enough damage to become depleted, incoming damage will begin to affect the player’s Health. Strategically engaging in combat as to only incur Overshield damage and not Health directly can drastically increase odds of victory.
Health (or HP for Health Points) is represented by a red HP bar displayed on the player’s HUD. Incoming damage to a player generally does not affect their HP while they have an active Overshield. However, some Damage Types can pierce Overshields and directly impact a player’s HP.
Once a player's Overshield is broken, any further damage they receive is deducted from their HP. Health damage does not regenerate unless the player can recover it through the use of Consumables, Skills, Abilities, or medical stations.
Incoming damage that affects HP also affects Armor Durability. The more damage a player takes, the lower an armor’s Durability and the higher the chance of losing its Damage Reduction.
Players can use healing items or abilities to recover lost HP. Healing items can be picked up from defeated enemies, found in the environment, crafted, or purchased from vendors. Healing abilities can be unlocked through the Upgrade Trees. Items or skills that affect HP are labeled to “Heal” whereas items or skills affecting armor are labeled to “Repair”.
The HP bar is segmented into quarters. Players receive audio and visual alerts indicating they are incurring damage to their HP. Damage to HP causes the screen to turn red around the edges. A special alert will activate once HP falls below 25% of the current maximum to indicate an emergency. If HP is reduced to zero, the player enters a state of Critical Failure.
