Triggers & Ignitions

Triggers can be applied to enemies to allow for Ignitions which are extremely powerful attacks that can be activated by performing a specific series of actions. To initiate an Ignition, a target must first have a Trigger applied to them. Certain Weapons, Abilities, and Skills have the Trigger perk which adds a Triggered status to an enemy based on their individual criteria. Once Triggered, the target can be Ignited if attacked within a short period by a weapon or skill that causes Ignition.   Players can invest in skills that improve their Trigger and Ignition attacks, such as making enemies easier to Trigger or increasing the damage dealt by Ignitions. Some enemies may be immune to certain types of Trigger or Ignition effects as well.

Triggers

A Trigger does nothing by itself, so players must time their attacks carefully to Trigger and subsequently Ignite enemies. Applied Triggers last a short amount of time, so if a player fails to follow up with an Ignition within that time frame, the Triggered effect expires and the target cannot be Ignited. A new Trigger will need to be applied to set up the Ignition.   By default, Triggers last 8 seconds, however this amount of time can be modified by Gear, Mods, Skills, Consumables, and more. If an Ignition does not occur before the timer has run out, the Triggered status is lost and they must be Triggered again.   Once a Trigger has been applied to a target, an audio cue will play, and both the target and their Health bar will glow.

Ignitions

After a target is primed with a Trigger, a followup attack with a weapon, ability, or other specific set of conditions will activate the specific Ignition that was applied. Ignited targets can have a variety of different effects applied to them depending on their source. Some Ignitions create area of effect bursts, knockback, or status effects, while others cause a large amount of rapid damage.   Once a target recovers from an Ignition, they cannot be Triggered again for at least 12 seconds.   Unless explicitly stated by the Trigger, any target that is actively Triggered can be Ignited from any source that has the capability. This makes timing and communication for effective Ignitions very important.
