Olbern
The island of Olbern's history is steeped in magic. It was once a haven island in the idyllic Bay of Olbern that only those with magical aptitude could live in. Guarded by magical automata the island nation and its city bearing the same name was a rarely looked upon wonder by most of the continent.
After the Return, that changed. Magic began to change and less and less people were capable of wielding magic in any meaningful way. The Schola Magus setting up its headquarters on the island helped, but mostly delayed its decline.
Eventually, the island became mostly a private island for the rich and powerful who could afford to live there, after the nation dropped its magical requirements in exchange for monetary contribution. It was during this time that the Impero Tharrisian annexed the small nation, with little resistance.
Now, Olbern still houses the Schola Magus, which constantly shields itself from arguments of bias towards its indirect rulers. It also still caters to the rich and powerful, with the city proper being filled with manors of the rich and powerful of Tharrisia.
The island is now also an important strategic key to Tharrisia. Its naval yards allow its navy to guard against actions from the south in Straka, and its ideal location makes it an important trading port for the nation.
Demography and Population
The population is mostly a mixture of "old-blood" Olberni families that have stuck around despite the changes over the centuries, Tharrisian upper-classes that have purchased land on the island after the the annexation, and those who work for the Schola Magus. There are also some permanent workers working at the Olbern Naval Yards.
Due to the presence of the Schola Magus, the island contains the most High Elves outside of Embrel.
Military
The provincial capital is still guarded by the now ancient Sentinels, magically created autonomous guardians who enforce the laws of the land and protect its citizens. Though now the Tharrisia Legion now does the majority of the islands defense and policing.
Religion
Unlike the Tharrisian homelands, much of Olbern are followers of the Supragens Movement.
