Capital of Gharlarad and the main political and military force of the region.
The city, the position of Sultan of Gharalad and by extend the entierty of Gharlarad have been controlled by the Kolvahar family for generations. Though the late Sultan Habschi Kolvahar, while pushing great advancements for the common people and slaves of Gharlarad, has been widly regared as a weak ruler. Under his rule various factions rose to power. This culminated in the Battle of Barad orchastrate by the The Twins attempting to take over the throne.
The new Sultana Saschira Kolvahar is at a strong disadvantage, being fairly young and on top a woman of power in an overall misogynistic society. Yet she has the support of a the common people and is determined to continue on the path of reforms her father had begun.

Barad commands the largest unified standing military force of Gharlarad - and second largest on the continent, though it is a distant second after the Army of Ikan.
Most of the forces are tied up defending the border in the west.
