Portside Sewer
The The Ladies' Hiking Club discovered what appears to be a series of sewers somewhere underneath The Lamplight Inn. The squat bathroom door leads to a vertical shaft about four storeys down, serviced by a sturdy old lead pipe ladder. An access hatch is situated around a sharp corner from the base of the ladder.
Crisis in the Freshwater Chamber
The first chamber appears to be an intake chamber for fresh water. Upon entering the chamber, Beulah Garland and Cherry Merrybottom inspected the water, finding something in the form of a brass rod at the bottom of an oddly still corner. When Cherry kicked at the surface, she was seized by one of three gelatinous cubes hibernating just below the surface of the water. A loud battle ensued, in which Beulah was snared, engulfed and partially digested before Vega Spritzer rushed to the rescue from upstairs with a crucial healing spell. Realizing Beulah was both drowning and disintegrating, Cherry jumped upon the cube devouring her with a frantic desperation to free her. As she jumped, she was knocked off course by another of the cubes and was sent flailing into the water. Just before she hit the surface, a thunderclap shook the chamber and she, Beulah and Peaseblossom were gone. Vega, unable to determine where her party-mates went and suddenly outnumbered by deadly hunters, rushed up the short ladder down into the chamber and sealed the door behind her.Ecosystem
The Club has come to realize there is substantially more depth in the sewers than they initially imagined, and the canals seem to stretch out for miles in all directions, dotted with any number of workstations, gears, valves and other indicia of a central regulatory system. In addition to gelatinous cubes, the Ladies have learned of several other species that make the sewers their habitat. To an old hand like Beulah, it seemed the sewers were ripe grounds for adventuring: sizable but with plenty of surface access in case of emergency, and loaded with creatures that would be inclined to gather the trinkets, coins and other shiny things lost in the waters. In the course of The Assault on Anthur-Ro the ladies came upon and defeated a pair of basilisks that made the sewers their habitat, and Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters was saved from petrification and devouring only by the efforts of Spritzer, who had the wisdom -- after a first attempt failure -- to whip up an anti-petrification potion on the spot from components she had already collected in the Thetford Forest and the eye of one of the fallen basilisks. Following the map provided by Reghyxesh, the Ladies also came upon his private quarters, which seem to provide direct vertical access to the catacombs beneath Anthur-Ro. (Difficult for a biped to ascend but as convenient as a staircase for a runty Beholder.) Fanny located his private stash of gold behind the clutter in his main chamber, but opted to leave it undisturbed until she could come up with a more convenient cover story. In the shaft above Reghyxesh's chamber, the Ladies came once more upon the scent of maple and knocked out a wall to reveal the Hall of Events Non-Canonical.
