In order to learn the location of The Nemeton Grove and save Jennifer Blake's prisoners, Scott McCall, Allison Argent and Derek Hale are persuaded by Marin Morrell to offer themselves as proxy sacrifices.
This allows them to locate the Nemeton, but also completes the sacrifice cycle, repowering it, and opening the gateway between worlds.
