Elf

Elves were formerly the most dominant species in The North and were the second most prevelant race on the continent before The Human Rebellion and subsqequent Elven Genocide. The Elves in exile on the Southern Continent can be categorised into two primary Sects divided along the lines of the former Kingdoms, with most Full Blood Elves remaining in the North also aligning with the Sects with the exception of Conclave Elves.

Halenthan

The Halenthans, servants of the God of Mortality Harlak, hold ambitions of uniting the two Elven Sects through the conquest of Lorintha. If they were to unite the Elves, their goal is to cross the sea and reclaim the Elven lands of old from the Human Usurpers. They have taken up residence on a chain of islands north of the southern continent and have been practicing Piracy against Human maritime trade since.

Lorinthan

The Lorinthans, followers of the Lady of Knowledge Lorinth, view their banishment south as ordained by the gods as punishment for their sins. After arriving on the Southern Continent, they established cities on a large Plateau and cut themselves off from the outside world. Lorinthan rangers intercepting the occasional Halenthan raiding party that attempts to intrude into their territory, allowing their scholars to pursue their work in peace.

Conclave Elves

Additionally, in the far west of the North, the Elves of The Siar Conclave inhabit the Free City of Cymara and The Conclave (Building).

Beauty Ideals

Elven beauty is characterized by sharp, symmetrical features. High cheekbones, slender noses, and angular jawlines are often idealized. Their pointed ears, a distinctive trait of the race, are also considered a symbol of grace and refinement, with longer sharper ears being a desired feature. Elven skin is typically fair and smooth, often described as having a subtle, otherworldly glow. This luminescence is considered a mark of purity and health, contributing to the ethereal quality of their appearance.

Gender Ideals

Elven gender ideals reflect a complex balance of traditional roles and evolving norms, characterized by a degree of gender equality that is progressive relative to Human Hum standards. Elven societies are structured to afford individuals of all genders significant roles and responsibilities, although traditional gender roles and expectations still persist in various forms.

Courtship Ideals

Courtship among Elves is characterized by a series of graceful and formal rituals. These rituals often involve elaborate ceremonies, carefully orchestrated meetings, and symbolic gestures that highlight the courtship's seriousness and intent.   Elves often express their romantic interest through artistic and creative means. This can include composing poetry, creating intricate artworks, or performing music. Such gestures are seen as sincere and meaningful ways to convey affection.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Elven is the lingua franca for the majority of elves.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Elven societies are typically hierarchical, with leadership positions held by elders or those with significant magical prowess. The structure and governance vary between sects. For instance, the Halenthans, followers of Harlak, the God of Mortality, have a more militaristic and expansionist governance style, focusing on conquest and reunification. In contrast, the Lorinthans, adherents of Lorinth, the Lady of Knowledge, are organized around scholarly and isolationist principles, with a strong emphasis on research and self-sufficiency.   The Religion of Elven Creationism plays a central role in Elven culture. Halenthans worship Harlak and engage in rituals that reflect their beliefs about mortality and destiny. Their ceremonies often involve military and spiritual elements. Lorinthans, on the other hand, venerate Lorinth and are known for their dedication to intellectual and magical pursuits. Their religious practices are deeply intertwined with their scholarly activities, including the study of ancient texts and magical lore.   Elven traditions encompass a range of cultural practices, including elaborate ceremonies for significant life events such as coming of age, marriage, and death. Storytelling is an important tradition, with ancient tales and legends serving to preserve history and impart moral lessons. These narratives are often conveyed through oral traditions and are integral to Elven identity.

Common Taboos

Respect for Age: Elven societies place great importance on honoring their elders. Disrespecting or disregarding the wisdom and authority of older individuals is considered highly disrespectful. Elders are seen as the custodians of knowledge and tradition, and maintaining their dignity is crucial to societal harmony.   Public Disparagement: Publicly criticizing or challenging the decisions and authority of elders is a serious taboo. Such actions are viewed as undermining the social fabric and are typically met with censure from the community.   Sacred Sites: Certain locations within Elven lands, such as ancient groves, temples, or magical sites, are regarded as sacred. Entering these areas without permission or defiling them in any way is a serious transgression. These spaces are reserved for specific rituals and ceremonies, and their sanctity must be preserved.   Cultural Artifacts: Similarly, ancient artifacts and relics hold immense cultural and spiritual significance. Mishandling, stealing, or damaging these items is viewed as a grave offense, reflecting a lack of respect for Elven heritage.   Conventional Roles: Elven societies often have established social roles and norms, particularly related to family, gender, and social status. Violating these roles or engaging in behavior that disrupts social order can be considered taboo. This includes disregarding traditional roles in familial or societal structures.   Social Hierarchy: Disregarding or undermining the social hierarchy, whether through challenging established authority or seeking to alter traditional social structures, is typically viewed as disruptive. Social cohesion and respect for established roles are crucial to maintaining order.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Many Elves harbour prejudice against other species, viewing Elves as superior to their short lived counter parts. Humans are viewed with particular disdain, the memories of The Human Rebellion still fresh, and with Halenthans in particular believing that humans are rightfully servants of the Elven Race as ordained by the Gods.
