Bettigar Keep

The sprawling city of Bettigar Keep, first erected in the times of King Balest as a Fortress under the name of Highland Keep; However in its 7th year of operation Elrick Bettigar became its warden and the King renamed the fortress in his honor when Elrick saved the King from being attacked by a blue dragon. The Bettigar family has been the keepers of the Keep since, and eventually began adding on little homes and additional buildings to the keep, once Elrick's son Scott Bettigar II was named Baron, and in turn Bettigar it's own barony, expansion hit new levels, there were squabbles with Tor for bits of land here and there, and as the Reign of Kel'Azad came and went bloody fights settled the lines between the baronies; Since the time of King Omund's Peace Bettigar was seen as a bit of a Podunk region, famous for its farms and swamps and large, wide open fields of lush green forest. Its biggest export was highly perishable foods, which severely limited Bettigar's ability to grow and prosper.   That changed when Thomas Bettigar took the chair of Baron in the last 40 years, he pushed his people into old dwarven mines no longer being used; thought to have been long tapped; but tapped they were not. Everywhere Thomas IV sent his miners, they found vast riches to export back to the keep. The keep began trading the gems with the other baronies as well as outside parties and individual collectors soon expansion of Bettigar keep reached new heights, it became the second largest city in Andrim, only behind the Giant city of Tor. The hills of Bettigar were producing food and the mines were producing gems and other valuables, it was a new dawn in the east. Soon Bettigar became known as "The Emerald of the East" as its economic boom reached new heights.   The city is home to nearly ten thousand people, dozens of bars, pubs, inns, a full fledged shopping district called The Bettigar Bazar, a coliseum for sporting events, a horsary, several grape and fruit fields for producing Bettigaran Shinel; a nearly deadly delicious fruity liquor whispered to be brewed with a little magic.   The Annual Tournament of Kings is preceded by a very popular festival, an event the citizens of Bettigar look forward to all year.
During one such tournament, Lord Edmund Bettigar was restored to power by the coalition of Rend when he was revealed to still be alive after a years long attempted coup by The Rosso Ceiello; Edmund slayed The Rosso who conspired against his family and was named the 10th Lord of Bettigar.
