Kingdom of Andrim

Andrim is Korlo's country; the land first touched down upon by the Father Above All and the original homeland of Man. In ages past, it was ruled by a Dread clan of Storm Giants; For nearly 670 years of their life on Orund, man was subjugated to the rule of The Dread. Eventually among the Andrimians rose a leader, a fighter and eventually a king. They raised an army composed of all mankind and rallied against the Giants until they finally defeated the Storm King Aza'd Alekdross; establishing the first Andrimian Kingdom based in Tor, with the Giant's palace still erected in the heart of the city, simply called the Colossal Keep. Andrim is also said to be the original home of all dragons, though the type youre most likely to see in this region is the Mighty Volcanic Reds of Eastern Andrim's mighty peaks or the Cunning Blues of the Ruby Desert.     The fist Andrimian king, Drewgar Balest lived a long life and fathered many children, and those children fathered many children. His son eventually took over the throne in his father's later years; then his son did the same for him. This continued on for almost 200 years, and for the most part andrim was quite peaceful; there was a brief spat with Kaldore, followed quickly by peace once again once Kaldorian language had been translated into Common. That is until Bazo Balest came along, he was the third born son of the king of his age, and that meant he would likely never receive the throne. Bazo was greedy and hired a great mercenary company as his personal standing army, stealing the gold from the kingdom's treasury to raid it himself. Unbeknownst to Bazo, his brother Bellar was also plotting to kill the current king, eldest brother King Barrick Balest III, and used this oppurtunity to attempt and subsequently fail an assassination attempt in the throne room. The forces were driven back, as Barrick did not want to execute his brothers; This began a conflict called the War of Three Brothers, a conflict that lasted a few years, until Barrick Balest was unexpectedly killed in his bed chambers in the night; some even said the murder was carried out by a demon or perhaps a spirit. Both remaining brothers tried to claim responsibility for the assassination to assist their own claims to the throne but failed to captivate the populace to their own sides.   The kingdom was left vulnerable in this time and was taken advantage of, This time by a royal advisor who was hiding amongst the ranks of King Barricks Council. The one who actually carried out the ritual that lead to the death of Barrick, a mystic named Kel'Azad. He used the kingdoms weakness during this time to seize the throne for himself, and when the brothers that remained challenged him in battle for the throne, he revealed himself to be an ancient black dragon, one of the first of his kind, and in that age certianly the oldest. He easily decimated the armies of the brothers united and declared himself ruler of Andrim.   People resisted however, and over the course of the next 15 years a man named Omund gathered an army of his own, made of the common people of Andrim; People called Omund The Dragon Slayer, as he was the only man at that time known to have defeated a dragon in combat, the celerbated hero easily won people over to his side, gathering both commoners and former royalty alike to his side as he claimed section after section of the kingdom back from the dragon. Finally the two met, and using the shield of Andrim Omund defeated the dragon and ushered in the age of peace. He went on to become known as The Good King as he never forgot about the common people that helped him claim his kingdom, and thought of them foirst wioth every royal decree, and ever important decision he made.   Omund lived a remarkbly long life, some say his was prolonged by the magical artifact The Crown of Andrim; part of a set of 3 items Ormund had used to reclaim the kingdom of Andrim from Kel'Azad. He instituted a decree of magic, and created a royal guard known as the Dragon Guard to protect him and his kingdom. He worked with many adventurers and great sorcerers of his time to help keep Andrim safe while he ruled from the Colossal Keep in Tor. The age of peace in Andrim lasted three hundred and fifty years, until the day of King Omund's death.   Ajax's flying fortress appeared in the skies above Bettigar seemingly without warning, in the year 1,169 AK. The Good King scattered the forces of his armies and even dispatched his trusted dragon riders to attempt a forward attack on the fortress, however it was fruitless; eventually the Colossal keep was overrun by monsters, creatures ajax had summoned from the void to carry out the attack in his name. And the Good King;s throneroom was taken. Ajax himself entered the room and closed the door behind him; The Good King's body was never found, but Ajax emerged with the crown of Andrim and crushed it in his hands in front of all the surviving court members before claiming the kingdom as his own.       The Kingdom is currently ruled by Ajax, The invincible Overlord. When Ajax overthrew the King he made a deal with the peoples of Andrim and the various kingdoms within; Unto the realm of men he promised them freedom to rule themselves as they saw fit, and that land in Andrim belonged to whoever could take it, and that whoever's banner rose over the land each day serve Ajax. This lead to the creation of The Baronies; all 5 originally ruled by man though the modern landscape of the baronies is very different. To the kingdom of the Dwarves, the keepers of the peaks of Andrim's great mountain range; he promised them they could maintain indepedance as a kingdom subservient to Ajax under the condition that they use their trade knowledge and navigational skills of The Under Roads to institute a pipeline of slaves to be traded to Ajax's forces once every 3 months. To the elves, Ajax showed nothing but disdain; and promised nothing but misery. He allowed elves to continue to live in Andrim under the condition that they never purchase property, never hold land or titles and subjugate their own kind to slavery. Many elves attempted to flee Andrim and head to the Elder's Hand. But after the Age of Darkness began in Kaldore, the Elder's Hand was filled to capacity with elves fleeing the mainlands. The Council of Rings abandoned the elves of Andrim; dooming most to a life of poverty and slavery in the cities or hiding and running with a clan in the forest lands of Andrim. Ajax dealt one final blow before The Departure; that all religion of any and all gods be outlawed within Andrim, and that it was to be undone by Ajax's hand.   Thus began the age of Purging, an eight year conflict where all organized religion was eradicated by Ajax and his forces; Some pockets of resistance formed, specifically in the Capital lands of Andrim The True Believers; a sect of worshipers of both the Iron lord and The Platinum Dragon rallied and successfully defeated Ajax's forces on a few occasions. Sadly, they were seemingly prolonging the inevitable as one night they were raided by Ajax's forces while most of them slept, recovering from an earlier battle. Once The True Believers were thought to have died so did seemingly all open practice of religion in Andrim. There are some secret meetings in back alleys, in inn cellars, perhaps in the middle of the woods; where small groups of people gather to worship under the danger and threat of execution; The Barons are supposed to reinforce this law, some do; out of fear of Ajax, though some do not; as Ajax himself has not been seen in some time and rules by way of his followers a force called the Invisible army who report back and strike fear into the hearts of Andrim citizens, who have begun to even push for the construction of Churches to the Lord Ajax himself.   Andrimian factions of note include; Ajax's invisible army, The Coursers, The Vigilant Order, The Black Coast Thieves guild, The Ceaseless Syndicate and many others, including the Five Baronies   The Five Baronies are Detailed further in their individual entries and include, Tor, Bettigar, The Ruby Desert, Dalrath, and Zyll
