Session 12: Ah Gnar! It's the Gnoll Gnoll!

General Summary

Begging the forgiveness of our readers, this recap will be shorter because it's been a few weeks and it was primarily combat anyway.
Back on the road after the Haggening, the party begins the transition between the wide open and populace fields of Mother's Gift and toward the more rural areas that lead into the Grove of the Cat forests. These roads are less maintained and traveled, though the journey is uneventful up until after midnight.   It is at this point that Tervik Likkus is driving while the others nap. ALEK51 awakens suddenly to become aware that the wagon has come to an extended stop. He checks around the vehicle to find Tervik gone, his Sending Stone and signet ring left abandoned on the driver's bench with a note:
I'm not ready to deserve all of this yet.
The note is signed and upon looking around Alek sees no signs of a struggle or Tervik leaving under duress (other than, you know, emotional duress of imposter syndrome). The Warforged does not have ample time to dwell on this, however, as it notices that they are not alone in the gloom. Up ahead on the road, gnolls (animated anthropomorphic hyenas mutated in the aftermath of The Breaking) lie in ambush along a few gnolls (yes) and hills. Alek wakes the rest of the party quietly, tells them they've got something to talk about re: Tervik later, and readies the group for combat.   The gnolls include two Witherlings (reanimated zombie gnolls) we will call Meemaw and Peepaw, a Pack Lord named Paklerd the Welfed (well-fed), Flesh Gnar the Flesh Gnawer, and not one but two Hunters named Hunter. They flank the party from the high ground and do some nasty damage with longbows but otherwise are repelled.   The combat itself is an exemplary tale of the party's teamwork and growth, including Amanita Guttata doing some truly devastating work with Spike Growth to manage the enemies. L0L4 realizes she needs to practice being mean to people more after a few Vicious Mockery whiffs, Kitanya Evermoon dances, Wynnie Bishop imbues ALEK51 with a dragon's fiery breath (with little warning and funny consequences), and the grassy gnoll full of gnolls is gno more.   Having swept the perimeter (and moved the gnoll corpses away), the party sets up camp for the night and prepares to search their feelings and discuss the loss of a party member. Plus, you know, tell Gleddy Goodvine, get some good rest, eat campfire food etc.

Notes

We welcomed our new player Dameon, letting them sit in on the mayhem to see if they vibe with our party and campaign. (They do!)
