Holy Republic of Ligira

The Holy Republic of Ligira is a state found on the eastern coast of Osun. Ligira is a magocracy ruled by a democratically elected council of divine and arcane mages.

Structure

Ligira is led by a council of High Mages known as the Congregation of Memories. The Congregation is led by their Archmage. The current Archmage is Farryn Ojukwu, the first Half-Elf to have been appointed to the position.   The nine High Mages are democratically elected by the populace of Ligira. The High Mages then elect an Archmage amongst themselves. The Congregation holds full legislative control in Ligira, and also serves as the highest court within the country.

Demography and Population

Ligira's population is about 25-30% elven, primarily in large cities. The rest of the population is fairly equal parts human, half-elf, firbolg, halfling, with a small population of grung around Lake Katou.

Territories

Aside from its territory on the mainland, Ligira also controls the Veiled Islands. However, these islands (the largest of which is Duskwood Island) operate largely autonomously.   Until the year 936, the Veiled Islands were owned by the United Federation of Saar'gasi; much of the original settlers were Saar'gasian humans. However, there was an exodus of elves in the early 5th century, leading to what is presently a population consisting upwards of 90% half-elves. Ligira purchased the territory in an attempt to promote elven culture and heritage on the Islands.

Religion

The only officially recognized deity in Ligira is Mystra. However, many citizens worship other members of the Ennead. Members of the Triad of Nature are commonly worshipped by Firbolgs and Elves. The Triad of Immateriality is frequently worshipped by those on Duskwood Island.

Foreign Relations

Ligira and the United Federation of Saar'gasi have historically had a strong diplomatic and economic relationship. However, the recent purchase of the Veiled Islands has led to Ligira seizing control of the Silver Bay and River Ghanag. In conjunction with the recent Awakening, political tensions are rather high.   Ligira's relationships with the Kingdom of Taimotu, the Vadric Principalities, and the Khanagate of Saishir have not been particularly strong or notable until recent months.
