The Longest Journey

What follows are extracts from the journal of one Kuuusaa Lssuaa, a Suuu from Succeed who was hatched and raised in Kaan-Paah, Capital City of Succeed. Not all entries have been included for sake of brevity, and for the same reason some have been edited to include only the most pertinent of detail. These areas will be marked as [redacted].

I can't believe I'm doing this. I really can't believe I'm doing this. But it's happening. It's finally happening. I'm writing this sitting in the waiting room of the Space Port. From here I can see the legendary Launch From Ice. Honestly, I don't think I've seen it this close before. It's strange to think that all those centuries ago, we Suuu were going to set off in search of a new land, and now here I am, little old me, waiting to set off on my own big adventure. Well, nothing on the same scale as them, but still.
I told Mum and Dad that I was leaving, of course, and all the sibs. They were each busy with their new batches. Mum was literally hovering over her latest nest, but she'd always said that was her calling. Both of them seemed happy for me in their own way. It's a big deal to have a child go off and do this sort of thing. I hope I make them proud.   They'll be calling my flight number soon, so I should sign off, but I want my first entry in this journal to be a good one. This is the first step on this big adventure and I am so excited about what might happen next. I want to remember this feeling forever. I am on the edge of something. Something's beginning. I cannot wait to see what the Universe has in store for me!

[redacted]   The launch took longer than expected and escaping the planet's atmosphere caused real issues with my digestive system, forcing me to revisit a lot of yesterday's meals. [redacted]   Now, though it's settled, and I can look out of the viewing platform at the planet I am leaving behind. Succeed looks so beautiful from up here. The yellows and greys swirl together creating pictures. Cloud gazing from above, who'd have thought.   I was just interrupted by a Brugen who asked me why I was trembling. I hadn't realised I was. He peered at me with the eye closest to me and seemed to see more of me than was comfortable. We talked for a short while and he introduced himself as Space Traveller Mip Glipblog. I've not met a Brugen before and I tried not to stare at all the feathers. They looked awfully itchy. He suggested that if this was going to be a big adventure, that I was sitting in the wrong part of the ship. Big adventures were about looking forwards, not staring longingly back at where we'd come from.   I think I like Space Traveller Mip Glipblog. I wonder if he'll let me call him Mip.

[redacted]   It turns out Space Traveller Mip Glipblog is not a man and no, I'm not allowed to call her Mip. She is from Quackerly Green and apparently the name reminds her of someone from "back home".   [redacted]

I have spent the last 18 standard hours strapped into a seat in the communal area on deck 3. We were informed late last night that the ship had taken an unexpected turn into the Laurel Belt and that we needed to report to our evacuation points. Staff strapped us in and I have been holding on tightly to the arm rests ever since.   A short while later, the captain made a statement saying that his [redacted] had [redacted] and that he would be calling [redacted] to [redacted] as soon as he got us out of this [redacted] situation.
There were a lot of words I didn't understand, but I got the gist. I'm not going to lie, it was terrifying. I'm pretty glad we didn't have any Clebveth in our section because I've heard their bodies can't cope with that much stress. Did you know that [redacted]   According to the Pachian who was strapped in near me, we were very lucky to get out the other side. They said that [redacted]. They also said we must have an excellent pilot otherwise we wouldn't have stood a chance.   [redacted]   I think we're going to be stopping in Laurels soon, to pick up more passengers. This has already been more of an adventure than I was prepared for! I cannot wait to see what happens next! I wonder what Mip Space Traveller Mip Glipblog thought about the whole thing. I'll have to find her and ask.

Congratulations on completing the second chapter of "The longest journey". Here is a little memento to remember this chapter by :

Our journey continues in chapter three, "The wonders of the world". Hope to see you there!

Sit down, my friend, and let me tell you of Aran'sha . A world where the sands shift and the stars sing, where the wind carries secrets and the twin moons keep silent vigil over it all.
