Nurikai

The ones closer to Oal-Mer.

The Nurikai are chosen from the Nur to become representatives of a village. Though this gives them a similar status to those of a governor or ruler, they are actually serve as religious leaders, the ones "closer to the god". The Nurikai are the peak of Kukai spirituality, symbols of faith and cultural legacy.   "For our people and our destiny, I shall walk the path of Oal-Mer. May we find his light of guidance and become its embodiment, for we are the Nurikai." -Oath of the Nurikai-

Career

Qualifications

The tasks of a Nurikai are somewhat symbolic, as the true purpose of it is to follow the path of Oal-Mer to become the greatest spiritual guides. Since they come from the Nur, however, they may share some of the following skills with them:
  • Reading and writing
  • History knowledge
  • Ritual for the Sacred water
  • Understanding of octal and decimal numeral systems
  • undefined
In addition to these, the Nurikai also develop skills which are specific to their profession. Their hard training allows them to learn the following:
  • Universal language
  • Astral travel
  • Clairvoyance

Career Progression

In order to become a Nurikai, a willing Nur must be chosen by one of the current representatives; basically one from the previous Nurikai Generations. Then they undergo a special training, a spiritual preparation to grant them skills unlike any other. The Nurikai training usually goes like this:
  1. Nur is chosen to become Nurikai
  2. Mastering deep meditation
  3. Understanding universal language
  4. Mastering astral travel
  5. Contacting Oal-Mer's spirit
  6. Mastering clairvoyance

Perception

Purpose

As natural leaders and devoted servants of their god and people, the Nurikai take part in the administration of Kukaisociety. They their duties may be of a more "symbolic" nature, they usually help the Nur when handling local affairs. The Nurikai are also the peak of kukai spirituality, making them figures of respect and sometimes inspiration for others. They usually play a bigger role during the holy week, attending all sorts of events and rituals, specially the tournament (fight ritual) at the last day.

Social Status

They are representatives of each village, meaning that their people identify with them in some way. They also serve as governors as they may help with local affairs. However, unlike the Nur, the Nurikai have a more passive role. They are perceived more like spiritual guides, symbols of faith and union among the Kukai. They are the closest thing to a figure of authority, since they are considered "closer to the god", though they prefer to encourage people rather than forcing or ordering them.

Demographics

There are only seven Nurikai in all Kukai Amut; fourteen if we consider the Nur under the Nurikai training. Each of them live in one of the seven Kukai villages, where they will live and work until the next @nurikai generation is chosen.

History

During the expansion era the Kukai witnessed the departure of Hon, second embodiment of Oal-Mer. This, along with overall growth in villages, led some of the kukai to believe that their culture could be in danger; and so the utopia. That is why the Nur came up with the idea for the Nurikai profession, representatives of each village who would symbolize union among the kukai. And so, in the year 577 K.P., the first Nurikai Generation would be chosen by Rrebeka and Yak.

Operations

Tools

This professions uses few tools or items to perform their duties, as their role is almost entirely spiritual. But since they come from the Nur, they are use some of the following objects, either daily or just from time to time:
  • Nurikai clothing: In addition to the regular Nur clothing, the Nurikai wear a piece of clothing on their shoulders similar to a poncho, decorated by the Ker to fit the Nurikai's personality.
  • Containers: As they may perform the ritual to acquire Sacred water, the Nurikai require a container in order to use it for the fight rituals.
  • Ink and paper: Though they will most likely remember anything said to them, the Nurikai are capable of reading and writing in the kukai language.

Workplace

The Nurikai usually meditate near a body of water, as a way to follow the steps of Oal-Mer and its embodiment. They don't work at the Nur House as often as the Nur profession, though they may go there if somehow required. Some Kukai say that "their whole village" is the workplace for the Nurikai.

Provided Services

It is common for the Nurikai to help the Nur on their duties. This means that they may provide one or more of the following services:
  • Give spiritual and vocational advice
  • Perform rituals
  • Plan holidays
  • Serve as lore-masters
  • Help with local affairs
Though they may assist the Nur in any of their specializations, it is not that common for the Nurikai to help other professions unless it is in a somewhat passive or indirect way. The reason for this is the hard training and the preparation they undergo in order to become a Nurikai. But because of this, they may also learn one or more of the following skills, allowing them to provide unique services:
  1. Astral communication: This allows the Nurikai to communicate with other Kukai via astral travel, after some kind of contact is established between both sides. This can be very helpful when communicating urgent matter across villages.
  2. Master universal language: Though it is meant to better understand Oal-Mer, it is actually a kind of telepathy which allows users to communicate with other creatures, from animals to visitors of distant worlds. This also helps in contacting and understanding prime spirits.
  3. World clairvoyance: A well trained Nurikai may become able to see the world without even moving. This could be useful to watch over travelers or planning their routes.
  4. Psycholocation: Some Nurikai may learn how to contact others by, in their own words, reaching their souls. This is an extremely rare skill which requires mastery of universal language, clairvoyance and astral travel.

Dangers & Hazards

Any possible risks or hazards, if any, are reduced to none once a Nurikai completes its training. Their awareness of the world and living things around them, as well as their average Kukai physique, allows them to prevent any possible threats, even in the wild.
