Phaerant Independence War

The Phaerant Independence War began in 719, mere days before the start of the "Ode to the Dead" campaign. The duke of Phaererant , Sulwyn Firth, was a fervent follower of Hextor and wanted his lands to follow the war god's teachings. His liege, however, king Flint, forbade such a direct connection of church and state. Sulwyn Firth therefore ordered his duchy to rebel from Durhambia, with the belief that their faith in Hextor would grant them victory despite being vastly outnumbered.   Unfortunately for Phaerant, this was not the case. While the war god's blessings helped considerably, they slowly began to lose ground, eventually resulting in their territory being split into three pieces as Durhambia pushed the front backwards. A few months into the conflict it was revealed that Hextor himself, along with most of the other gods, was busy attempting to save the world from Iapetus, the Avatar of mortality. Phaerant agreed to a temporary ceasefire at this time.   Phaerant and Durhambia saw a "peace" of sorts for several months, characterized only by minor border aggression, but the fighting resumed in earnest shortly after The Age of Mortality came to a close. Even the death of their god Hextor did not stop the fighting; Phaerant simply converted to following the new goddess The Morrigan instead. Ever since then, Phaerant has been slowly regaining their old territory. Rumor has it that The Morrigan herself personally appears on the battlefield from time to time to lead their armies to victory in major conflicts.
