Tarak, once a poisoner employed by the Gilded Gallows, a notorious thieves' guild in Elturgard, faced a harrowing dilemma in the earlier half of the 15th century DR. Tasked with assassinating his own lover, who had been marked as a traitor by the guild, Tarak made a fateful decision. Instead of carrying out the grisly deed, he fled the guild with his beloved, seeking refuge from a life of crime. Tragically, their sanctuary was short-lived, as Tarak's lover fell victim to another assassin dispatched by the guild. Worse still, Tarak found himself framed for the murder and the theft of a considerable sum of money.
Escaping the clutches of his pursuers, Tarak sought solace on Stormwreck Isle, finding refuge within the tranquil confines of the Dragon's Rest cloister. Embracing a life of simplicity, he took up residence in a modest monastic cell and assumed the role of a humble gardener within the cloister's grounds. However, his past continued to haunt him, as remnants of the Gilded Gallows sought to reclaim the alleged fortune hidden by Tarak.
Despite his newfound peace, Tarak remained engaged with the outside world, making regular excursions to Seagrow Caves by rowboat. There, he engaged in trade with the local myconids, exchanging food scraps for the cave's prized fungi, including heart cap mushrooms for healing potions and ruby morel for elixirs of health. However, tensions arose when the myconids ceased trading, fearing a blight that threatened their habitat. Determined to restore the trade and alleviate the myconids' concerns, Tarak embarked on a mission to find a solution.
During a routine fishing trip with his companion Blepp, Tarak faced a life-threatening encounter with drowned sailors. Saved from certain demise by a group of adventurers, Tarak found himself indebted to the unexpected heroes, their intervention proving to be a turning point in his ongoing struggle for redemption and peace.
