Green Harbour

Green Harbour is a bustling town that oversit the wide, dark harbour that gives it it's name.  The Capital of The Ilse of Il , at least it's human lands, it holds the seat of the House of Il .   Among the Islands of the Western Sea, Il is considered by many the most prosperous and forward looking and Green Harbour is at the centre of that.  Receiving traders from far distant lands, and trying to support the trade of all sorts of goods.  The people of the Island also tolerate a wide sort, even their traditional enemies.

Government

Serving as the seat of the House of Il, Green Harbour is ruled by the King in name and deed.  It's day to day operations however, generally fall to his Chancellor, who delegates authority over all matters to those Knights or fellows who have proven themselves.    Positions in the town include a Master of the Harbour, a Keeper of the Gates, head of the Guard, and so forth.    Positions are kept or granted as the Kings grace.

Defences

The Town has a deep harbour, and several deep docks have been constructed there, along with a few floating ones, made functionally of bound together anchored rafts.   The Town itself is surrounded by a 20ft tall wooden Wall, with two gates, one facing the harbour, and one the north-western road.  Each Gate is made of thick Oak, cross-beamed and capable of being closed with a large cross-bar as well as reinforced from within by larger logs.  Each of the gates has a small wood gate-tower, from which usually a couple of scouts are posted.  Those by the harbour is slightly taller and are expected to watch for possible raiding ships.   Green Harbour Castle has a traditional Motte and Bailey design.  An outer wall of wood encircles a hill, with a manned gate on one side.  A pair of walls mark the walkway which leads up to the Keep Proper.  The keep has been, over long decades, constructed of Stone, and stands three stories tall, towering over the rest of the town.  The sides of the hill are covered in embankments of spikes, drop-traps and similar defences to make it harder to assail.

Industry & Trade

Green Harbor and the surrounding lands produce both common and luxury goods.  Fishing is a common enough trade, and surrounding fields of Oats, Wheat and Barley combine with Apple and Pear Orchards, Sheppards, Swineheards, chickens and ducks as well as various vegetable gardens to supply food to themselves and the surrounding lands.   As the Capitol of sorts it is a trade hub for various other settlements and peoples.  All manner of goods, both from within the Isle and without travel through it's markets.  The town itself is famed for it's Green Dyes, considered especially vibrate and thus for the Green Cloth they set.  Fine Dark Ales, and Crisp Cider are stored in Oaken barrels and traded far and wide.  Their handicrafts, especially of soft metals such as silver and gold are also considered attractive to many peoples, especially those of the Southern Kingdoms.

Architecture

Most of the cities buildings are of wood, with walls of Draub, and roofs of either wooden tile or thatch.  Most people live in one story, one room structures, though those with two stories, or dividers are becoming more common, especially among the trader classes.    A single thick beam will provide for slopping roofs leading to thick walls, sometimes with a window that can be shuttered in the winter.  A hole in the ceiling will let out the smoke from a central fire.
