Sampa River

The great Sampa River, known as Yhurrn by the Dhun, is fed mainly from Lake Jhila and many smaller rivers formed the western runoff from the Paryavardhi mountains. The Sampa flows across the middle of Barendar into the Gulf of Nirasa and is up to two miles across at its widest point. Near the coast, it breaks up into smaller channels, spreading over the plains forming the vast marshes and swamps of the Dhala.

The Sampa, which cuts directly through Dhun territory, is holy to the Dhun and no one is allowed to fish, hunt or even traverse it by ship, boat or canoe. It is home to many creatures unique to Barendar, such as the massive shurga fish.
