Vefa

The Beautiful, The Laughing One, The Golden Chain

Vefa is the Jolnir gottyan associated with the moon of the same name, known as Lum in the Kalmasi trade tongue. She is the youngest of the three daughters of the gottir Ragna and Kynaz.

Vefa a gottyan of desire, beauty and inspiration. She is prayed to by those seeking to attract someone they desire or to rekindle a faded love. Pastoralists make special offerings to her in hopes of increasing their flocks. She is also the gottyan of merrymaking. Her name is invoked by brewers and distillers to bless the drink they craft and by artists searching for inspiration. Of the three daughters of Ragna, she is the one with the closest relationship to her mother.

In Jolnir folklore, Vefa is often portrayed as a seductress who favors the hero by laying with them, who then gain certain powers that help them win the day. In the sagas of Jonag Issenhjart, Vefa comes to him when he is mortally wounded after a battle and lays with him, thus healing his wounds and granting him the coveted battle-luck, viglyk. Just as her father, she is able to change her form and appear as anyone or anything, including males. She is constantly at odds with her sister Skulta, who she claims is jealous of her beauty and favor, while Skulta mocks her for needing the approval of others and being empty-headed.

Vefa is commonly portrayed as a volumptuous young woman holding a bowl of mead before her. Her effigies are usually dyed white with lime.
