The Order of the Knights of Temperance
The Knights of Temperance were the militant branch of the Church of the Prevailing Man during the height of their power. In their infancy, they were predominantly used as bodyguards and security escorts for the Church’s upper echelons. The Knights struck fear into almost every man for their undying loyalty and unwavering faith in the Tenet of Man. The Knights were known for their aggressive reprimandation of the most severe sinners, and their vicious purgings of heretics. During the The Era of Magick, the Knights of Temperance became witch hunters or kaster hunters in accordance with the Church’s stance on magick. They became ruthless in their endeavours and would stop at nothing to find and destroy and magick user they could find. No one knew how many Knights there actually were, we know there weren’t enough to create a formal military. But there were enough to seemingly be in most major cities in the world.History
The Church of the Prevailing Man was once the largest organization in all of Rubrik. While not a true religion, as the Church itself does not believe in a god or higher power, its structure and ideologies do align with other religions around the world. With the discovery of magick, the Church of the Prevailing Man took a major stand against it. Preaching that magick, which is an otherworldly force, violated the fundamental Tenet of Man. Much of this had to do with the cost of magick. The Church and its leaders labeled the use of magick a near unrepentable sin, in which the only way to repent of said sin is through death. This sin, is not only reserved for Prevailing Saints, but for any man, woman, or child who practices magick. Many Saints were outspoken on this matter, claiming it a radical and impracital stance. Others sung praise to its leaders and claimed that the death of any Kaster was for the betterment of mankind.
Ideology
Members of the Church were known as Saints of the Prevailing Man, or simply Prevailing Saints. They firmly believe in the everlasting life of all men and believe that man may live forever through the practice and belief in the Tenet of Man.Magick
The Church of the Prevailing Man has a strict stance on the rejection of otherworldly forces and they have a clear system in place for dealing with those who transgress this principle. Here is how the Church handled infractions, ranging from minor to serious: Minor infractions: For minor infractions, such as dabbling in magick or consulting with a diviner, the Church may have administer a warning and required the offender to attend counseling or education sessions on the dangers of otherworldly forces. They may have also required the offender to perform community service or other acts of contrition. Repeat offenders: For those who continued to engage in otherworldly practices despite previous warnings, the Church imposed harsher penalties, such as fines, suspension of Church membership, or even exile. Serious infractions: For serious infractions, such as practicing forbidden magick or teaching others to use magick, the Church took more drastic measures, such as public confession, imprisonment or even death. The Knights of Temperance were known for hunting down and punishing those who were known to practice forbidden magic. It's important to note that the Church's stance on otherworldly forces was quite severe and the punishments for infractions were severe as well, reflecting that severity. It's also important to note that the Church's inquisitorial force, the Knights of Temperance, played a big role in enforcing the Tenet of Man. This meant that those who are found guilty of using otherworldly forces would be punished by the inquisitors.Tenets of Faith
