The Peas Treaty of the Mushroom Wars
Themes
The dangers of dogma.
Structure
Exposition
The War of Mushrooms has began in 980, since the days of brave captain Borovik and the Tzar Gorokh I. The current conflict is being headed by Boris Mushroomcap of the The Mushroom Kingdom and Tzar Gorokh IV of the The Pea Kingdom.
The two leaders have been escorted into the neutral glittering valley: Tzar Gorokh accompanied by Bogdan and Sergei, Boris Mushroomcap by Baboushka. From their den, the timber wolves watch with interest, and the mushrooms line up on one edge of the slope into the valley while the peas line up along the other.
With a successful Sense Motive check (DC20) it will be possible to determine that both leshy kingdoms are avoiding the well, even though Boris has told Baboushka that the well belongs to the Pea Kingdom. When Baboushka gains enough favour with one or other kingdom, she will be told more about the Touch of Winter curse that has changed the already-dangerous Samovilla.

Conflict
Both sides of the conflict believe they have been wronged by the other:
- Boris and the Mushroom Kingdom want reparations for the murder of the Milk Mushroom Children.
- Tzar Gorokh and the Pea Kingdom argue that the Mushroom Kingdom need to get over it, since it happened more than 500 years ago.
Climax
The leaders each have demands for what goes in the treaty. Three demands each must be included for the Peas Treaty to be a success.
Falling Action
The signing of the treaty, the presentation of the gifts. If it hasn't already come up, the kingdoms will tell Baboushka the truth about the Samovila in the well, who has been Touched by Winter.
Components
Goals
To bring peace to the glittering valley and convince Boris Mushroomcap and Tzar Gorokh IV to sign a Peas Treaty.
Moral Quandaries
Both sides feel wronged by the other.
- Boris argues that Tzar Gorokh and the pea kingdom are the aggressors of the fight, since they started the war all those years ago, and murdered the milk mushroom children.
- Gorokh counters that the Mushroom Kingdom needs to get over that. The mushroom children were killed at the start of the war, over 500 years ago, and besides it was the Mushroom Kingdom's failure to mobilise that meant the children were sent out in place of proper soldier.
- Boris is angered by this. He says that the Pea Kingdom shouldn't have invaded in the first place, and he is now only avenging the lives of the children.
- Gorokh scoffs that Boris is only playing war, trying to be like his grandfather. He adds that this is why it is better for a Kingdom to have a Tzar - a tzar is a birthright, and therefore has no need for insecurity.
- Boris calls Gorokh an unelected tyrant.
- Gorokh argues that he would be happy to end the war and make peas, but Boris needs to back down and stop attacking.
- Boris insists that Gorokh make reparations for the murder of the mushroom children.
- Gorokh demands that Boris make reparations for all the pea lives he has since killed by trying to live out his warlord fantasies.

Past Events
The War of the Mushrooms has been going on since the year 980. Although it still rages between the two Leshy Kingdoms, to the rest of the world, it has fallen into obscurity (if it was even heard of to begin with). The only vaguely-known account of the Mushroom Wars, outside the The Glittering Valley, is folklorist Alexander Afanasyev's account in his third volume of collected folktales.
