Derta

A Hamlet of Dertosa

Written by Azrael91

Observations of the Residents

"This is a fine hamlet of hardworking Estryians. The people here have simple aspirations and live plain lives, yet find fulfillment in their work and happiness in their community all the same. They have welcomed my brother and myself after we patiently worked for them and showed that our values matched their own. I am pleased to call Derta my home, and grateful the people here trust me to lead them."

-Canus Cato, Mayor of Derta

"The folks here like ale and good food just as much as anywhere. They work hard and deserve to have someplace to rest from their labors. I am pleased this community has grown to trust my Inn, and myself, enough they can do so here. I will say I do not understand why my brother has agreed to lead them as mayor, but that decision is his own - not mine, and I am thankful for the trust in us it represents. To me it signals that we belong in Derta and are no longer outsiders."

-Lars Cato, Local Innkeeper

"The people here need the guidance of Pharasima just as much as in any large city. I find it a pleasure to be able to serve in a peaceful, quite hamlet such as Derta. It gives me time to grow my own understanding of Pharism and of the Estryians. Speaking of which, how comes along your project to better understand Sanial and its inhabitants?"

-Kaeso, Head Local Priest of Derta

"Derta? It is a quite hamlet. The people here rarely make trouble beyond petty squabbles. If I am to be anything more than this I must get the guards in Dertosa to recognize me and take me into their ranks. I secretly hope the unrest in the world will visit Derta and give me such a chance to prove myself. Don't tell anyone about that last part, okay?"

-Camillia Fara, Local Guard and Hunter of Derta

"Derta is just as good a place to live as any other. My family has lived and worked this land for a long time, and will for a long time more I reckon. Don't ask me for anything more than that, it's not my place and I don't want it to ever be."

-Local Derta Farmhand

Observations from the Author

Information for the Gamemaster
Derta is a small hamlet, offering minimal services to outsiders and subsisting largely on its trade with the city-proper of Dertosa. Nothing here is of much interest to adventurer's, except that it is cheaper than staying in Dertosa herself. The hamlet is not far outside of Dertosa, and should anything require the aid of the city guard, they could likely respond in several minutes of hard pressed horse riding.

Notable Peoples of Derta

Mayor, Canus Cato (LN Male Human Administrator CR 6)

Canus Cato is the Mayor of Derta, made so by Kaeso because of the overwhelming support he has from the community.

Innkeeper, Lars Cato (NG Male Human Professional CR 5)

Lars Cato is the local Innkeeper of Derta and aspires to run his establishment in peace until he is ready to depart from life.

Head Priest, Kaeso (LN Male Human Priest CR 4)

Kaeso is the local head priest, appointed to Derta by the Church of Pharism. He would normally also serve as the mayor, but has elected to delegate that role to Canus. It is an astute political move by Kaeso, placing Canus in his debt and keeping him relevant in the community, even though this move is questioned by his superiors.

Guard and Hunter, Camillia Fara (LG Female Human Guard CR 4)

Camillia Fara is the local guard for Derta, though due to the low amount of crime she also acts as a hunter.
