Session 15 - Finding Abek

General Summary

  • The Radiants, after reorienting themselves and re-entering the Shard, set off to find the child who assaulted them
  • After a brief time of tracking, the Radiants find a trail of blood leading to a cave. Inside is the child, with a serious break in his leg. He appears fearful and tries to pull himself further into the cave
  • After some questioning, led forcefully by Garth, Havard steps in and offers more gentle inquiry
  • Havard learns that the child's name is Lirik, and that he does not know where Abek is. He just repeats, over and over, "This keeps happening. Even when there's something new it keeps happening!" and "It's a trick, you're a trick. The Mire's already won."
  • Outside the cave, Garth sees in the distance a bright beam of light appear in the sky, originating from the Peak in the center of the Basin. It holds steady for a moment, then gutters out. The world is cloaked in total darkness.
  • The Radiants find themselves back where they entered, with Lirik lying on the ground, cringing away from the Radiants in fear. Abek also reappears next to the party, where he also entered. He appears injured, but not critically so.
  • Determining that there is nothing else to be done, the Radiants leave the only way they know how, throwing themselves off the cliff to forcibly eject themselves from the shard
  • Toland waits for a period before leaving, pausing to heal Lirik's wounds. Lirik thanks him and seems to pull himself together a bit
  • Toland exits the shard. As he does so, he sees again the ball of flame that the Radiants saw previously, landing with a flash just as he hits the ground and exits the shard
  • The party, after some brief discussion, collect the shard. It is still damaged, however it no longer seems to be harming those who pick it up any more
  • The party heads south towards presumably the final shard, which is located somewhere in the swamps that the Collga make their home.
  • Progress is steady, when the party is met with a vast river that runs rapidly and is too deep to wade across
  • There is a great deal of debate as to how it would be best to cross. Toland makes note that there should at least be a spare boat on each side, as is customary for his people. Some go to find logs to make a raft before realizing that the river runs the wrong way, while Toland fashions a flying skin out of the Aurochs hide they obtained when they found Havard
  • After flying everyone across, the party encounters two Collga tribespeople portaging a boat. They tell Toland that Dreyfus, the leader of the Collga, is looking to speak with him and ask him to visit the camp
  • As this is on the way, the party heads onwards to meet with the Collga, eventually reaching them after a few days of travel
