Entertainment & Communications
Let’s face it, life without the arts is boring. All fun and no play makes Jack a dull boy, after all. The powers that be are not blind to the needs of the sensitive and colourful inhabitants of the colony. Therefore, everything to do with entertaining the masses - art, dancing, music, drama, etc… falls under its own department. Members of this sector may operate independently, oversee the functioning of establishments whose main purpose is leisure and entertainment. However, such individuals may find themselves conscripted to other departments in times of need, as their function and service is not considered to be essential to the success of the colony.
There is an exception to this, of course. The Communications part of the department. These individuals sometimes dabble in both worlds, but it is expected that their primary duty is to inform the denizens of Sanctuary of important news items and to disseminate factual information quickly and accurately. Occasionally, the line between entertainment and communications may become blurry, but rest assured that the Board knows who is vital and who is not.
Entertainment consists of a wide array of differing factions, each with their own goals and ways of going things. Those in bar, radio and broadcasting, drama, music, and artistry will find themselves belonging rather loosely into the E&C sectors.
Those in Entertainment and Communications may find themselves on the receiving end of odd and unsociable shifts - whether that be split shifts, during the evening and night right into the little hours of the morning, E&C will happily throw whatever annoying times at their employees in order to get the job done. Most places of employment under E&C will have a looser dress code than other department counterparts, with employees being able to wear even the most eccentric of items as long as it is appropriately modest for the occasion (those working day shift are not allowed to be revealing in any capacity) and due to this it is rather easy to point them out in a crowd.
It is often known within E&C that there is a rampant and unspoken rivalry between the two primary bars in Sanctuary - The Drunken Harp and The Wry Cast . Each member of the factions believe that their bar is better, has the better music, better staff, better customers and provides the best customer service to boot! Glares in the street and tutting every time they pass each other’s establishment is expected and appreciated. Sanctuary citizens have come to be amused by the antics of the dramatic bartenders and managers, however, they are usually also wise enough to pick a preference… Rumour has it, the falling out happened when two forbidden lovers from each bar were discovered and ostracised, leaving them without their very best managers.
Each faction of E&C has their own Lead which the Managers have to report to at the end of the week. This is aptly named the Weekly Meeting and Enndolynn is assured that this is always a very joyous occasion with absolutely no conflict or mistakes what-so-ever. Just how they like it. Oftentimes Enndolynn Montagu will spend their working hours (when not in the office) within the Drunken Harp, Wry Cast, or the The Aeon Theatre . They consider the Aeon Theatre their metaphorical baby, which means that funding frequently goes there first and foremost before going to the other establishments. This means that there is a fair amount of bitterness from those who are employed in the other, leftover establishments.
Entertainment and Communications naturally works closely with Security as they hire out their lowly bouncers in order to take care of the more unsavoury characters within the bars and pubs during the evening. They also have a very close relationship with Agriculture who continually provide the food and beverage they need to keep customers close - they also make fortnightly deliveries to Whisper Copse Radio Tower . They also have a budding relationship with Maintenance & Engineering due to the constant need for parts and repairs - though this relationship is testy at best, considering Dwali Urikini is highly suspicious of Enndolynn's motivations.
