The Vassalage of Ronceaux (Rong-SOW)
Ronceaux is a vassal kingdom of Sarkara in the west of Sildair. In the Silver Epoch the two kingdoms have found an uneasy peace after centuries of warfare, intrigue and high stakes diplomacy. The regent of Ronceaux is called the Viceroy, to reflect the fact that they rule in the king of Sarkara's stead, but in practical terms this is in name only. The Viceroy may owe their alligeance to the throne of Sarkara, but this respect is only maintained because it is never called upon. Favorable trade agreements, and a certain cultural common ground is truly what keeps the two kingdoms allies.
Government
Ronceaux is a feudal kingdom, divided into duchies which in turn are divided into counties and sometimes baronies. The viceroy is the ruler of all the lords of the land, who in turn rule their respective provinces. He himself answers to the king of Sarkara, though it has been centuries since the king of Sarkara attempted any interference with the viceroy's business. Viscounts and sheriffs are tasked with the internal safety of the land, and nominally answer only to the Viceroy, though in practice they are often closer with their local lord. The lords in turn, are tasked with fielding armies at the request of the viceroy, and gathering taxes on his behalf.
