The Kingdom of Sarkara (sar-CAR-rar)

Sarkara is a kingdom that lies on the westcoast of Sildair, north of the empire of Dunor. The Sarkarans are a proud people, who have dominated the lands around the Silver Run River since the Dawning Epoch, but the kingdom truly rose to prominence at the end of the Second War of Ashes, when King Ethalad started his crusade to liberate Dunethel from the forces of Ashagor the Despoiler.

Government

Sarkara is a feudal kingdom, divided into duchies which in turn are divided into counties and sometimes baronies. The king is the ruler of all the lords of the land, who in turn rule their respective provinces. Viscounts and sheriffs are tasked with the internal safety of the land, and nominally answer only to the king, though in practice they are often closer with their local lord. The lords in turn, are tasked with fielding armies at the request of the king, and gathering taxes on his behalf. A counsil of lords, chosen among all the nobles of the land, assists the king in his duties.

History

Sarkara started in the Dawning Epoch as a loose collection of tribes, who would wage war amongst eachother, and against Gorl raiders on a regular basis. During the rise of Asgal the Golden, his forces made it all the way to the Silver Run, and many of the tribes swore fielty to him, including a small tribe called the Sarkans, who lived near the mouth of the Silver Run. With the support of Asgal, the Sarkans quickly grew in influence, and eventually Llewelyn the Tall was crowned King Llewelyn I of Sarkara, ruling over much of what is today Sarkara. In the following years, Sarkara expanded its influence into Morogar and Ronceaux, by both sword and diplomacy, and as the might of Dunor faded, Sarkara began to rival the old empire in both size, strength and influence.
