The War of the Witches

Late in the 7th century of the Silver Epoch a cabal of five Miankurian witches rose to power among the nothern clans of the Blacktallow Mountains, and started plotting a campaign to conquer the lands between Sarkara and Mayard's Run in the Kusharan Principalities. For years their armies harried the trade-routes along the Semeya River, but the attacks grew bolder until eventually the Miankurians could claim the Semeyan valley as their own. At this point, the nothern barons of Sarkara rallied together and, without the approval of their king, mounted a campaign to liberate the valley and free up the lucrative traderoute to Mayard's Run. For years the battles raged, and the fortunes of the war oscilated back and forth. The war ended when the last of the five witches was killed and the remaining Miankurians scattered and abandoned their claims on the valley. Many mercenaries and fortune seekers from both the Principalities and Sarkara became rich from the spoils of war, and the Nothern Alliance of barons gained much of their lost economic strength, but widened the rift between them and their king in the process.
