Maldary

Written by Drackzahn

Maldary are also known as the foxes of the deserts. They are famous for their fluffy tails and their tribal nomadic behaviors.
I send a Maldary after him. There is no escape for our prisoner now, as she will hunt him down easily. Her legs are faster than all human ones and she will absorb him into her tail easily as soon as she has reached him. The only hard question is if we can get him out of her... I will prepare some trading goods for her as a bribe.

Abilities

Tail Absorption
The tail of a Maldary is her most dangerous weapon. The fluffiness is deep and tends to absorb all biological life that comes into contact with it if the Maldary wishes for it. A prey absorbed by the tail of a Maldary will experience a rush of warmful bliss and after that, a loss for the feel of the own body as it becomes part of the tail. The soul is stored inside the tail and is from then onwards in the mercy of the Maldary. Most who have experienced it explain the feeling of being filled with warm fluffiness but without a feel for their bodies, the time, or the space around them. A constant feel of half-asleep under a warm blanket. A Maldary can free any of her absorbed prey whenever she wishes for and has the energy to spare to rematerialize the body of her prey.
Tail Warmth
The warmth that a Maldary tail is most welcome on cold nights and makes cuddling a Maldary an extraordinary experience. As soon as you are wrapped in by the tail, all feeling of coldness leaves the body and is replaced by a warm and pleasant feeling of comfort. They mostly use it to warm either themselves or others during the night and sleep.
Sentinel Tail
Someone who is absorbed in the Maldary tail may experience a deeper connection. If both the prey and the Maldary wish so, the soul of the absorbed prey connects to the Maldary itself and becomes fully a part of her. This leads to the prey taking control over the tail and feeling it as their own body. The Maldary and her tail can communicate without words and always feel the other ones' desires, fears, and emotions. Such a deep connection is hard to cut for the Maldary, which is why most rarely do it, or if they do it, they hold up this connection for as long as they live. The absorbed prey often loses interest in their past life, and their wishes and fears and slowly will become nothing more than the happy and always hungry sentinel tail of the Maldary. This also strengthens the Maldary heavily, which is why most Kai, the leaders of a tribe, have such a sentinel tail.
Maldary Transformation
Someone who is absorbed in the Maldary tail may be changed into a Maldary themselves by the Maldary. Such a transformation only takes mere minutes, in which not only the future body, but more so the mind is changed and wrapped into a Maldary one. The prey will remember their old life and their old emotions, yet as a Maldary, they will live as one and feel like one. Typically, someone who is transformed into a Maldary will seek out old friends or even a loved one and invite them to join them in her new life.
Water boobs
The size of the breasts of a Maldary depends on the water reserves they have. While most of the Maldary body is water storage, the breasts are the place where the fill is visible. A well-nourished Maldary will have nicely formed and big breasts, while a thirsty one will have nearly no visible breasts at all. By breastfeeding, a Maldary can share her stored water with others to save them from their thirst. Kinky Maldary uses this ability to inflate their breasts by drinking big amounts of water at once.
Strong Legs
Maldary have strong legs, which allows them to run surprisingly fast, up to 75km/h. They can hold this speed for minutes and even while running long distances, they can reach speeds up to 40 km/h. Their legs also allow them to jump far and high, letting them close distances very rapidly towards their prey.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These female-only fox-like women have a humanoid body and resemble fox women of Earth. They have strong, long legs that allow them to run surprisingly fast, up to 75km/h. On their heads, they have long fluffy fox ears. Their big eyes have star-formed pupils and are orange-golden. The most iconic body part of the Maldary is its tail. It is long and incredibly fluffy. Most Maldary have tails that are similar in size to their bodies. The breasts of Maldary are water storage, which lets them survive without water for weeks. Most of their organs are built to require low amounts of nutrition and are compact in form and size. Their feet are beast-shaped and have long crawls on their four toes. Their bodies are fit and full of powerful muscles. The fur of their tails and their hair color are always golden to orange. Their skins are tanned.

Genetics and Reproduction

Maldary is not reproducing naturally like most species, but only by transforming other species into their own. They use their massive tails for these transformations. After absorbing a fitting prey, they change their genetics to their own and rebirth them as Maldary. This process takes only mere hours and changes not only the body but also the mind of the prey to be a fitting Maldary. They all remember their former lives, yet prefer to be what they are now.

Ecology and Habitats

Maldary live in hot regions, most often deserts. Their bodies can endure not only the scorching heat of long desert days but due to their warm fluffy tails, also the cold nights. Most Maldary lives in the southern desert regions of Atlanesis, but some small tribes of them can be found in most regions of this continent.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Maldary are vegetarians and mostly eat plants. They prefer sweet fruits or vegetables, but in dire situations, they can also consume the leaves of plants or cactuses. The second source of nutrition comes from absorbing prey into their tails. As long as they store them in their tails, they have a plus in energy.

Behaviour

Maldary are tribal thinking beings, who are extremely social orientated. Their worldviews are simple and often split others into only three categories: Family, Friends, and all others. They are caring and loving towards their family and friends, yet can be dangerous to all who fall not into these two groups. While their whole tribe is seen as their family, friends are a harder-to-grasp group for them. In general, they see all as their friends which shows friendly behavior towards them, but this can differ depending on the Maldary tribe and their history with other species. Among all others, Maldary are competitive and can quickly become dangerous due to their tails and fast legs. Commonly, they absorb people into their tails and bedtime stories about them fear children in many regions. It is important to be friendly towards them when meeting them during travels through the desert. Most travelers do this by sharing the warm fire during the night with them. A single Maldary can be described as playful, and cuddly, but not the brightest being. There are exceptions of highly clever Maldary, but most are easy to talk to and easy to manipulate. Maldaries love running and cuddling with each other the most.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Maldary are tribal beings, who think in simple family structures. They split all beings into four different categories, while two of these are often combined into the term family. A member of the tribe is called Kaihai, or sister in common tongue, by them. They do not need direct genetic similarities, but only being part of the same tribe to call each other that. Someone who is part of their tribe, but not a Maldary is called a Coihai. To become a Coihai, a Maldary needs to invite you to their tribe, yet for some reason do not transform you into a Maldary. This may be due to unique circumstances, or simply because your species is not compatible with the transformation. Most Coihai are Golems or Bottle Genies. All who are outside their tribe are either friends, which are called Fricai in their tongue, or they are foes of the tribe, Okacai. Friends are treated well by the Maldary tribes, while foes are often hunted and absorbed into their tails.   A tribe is led by a single leader called Kai, or big sister or strong sister. This leader is simply that Maldary with the most powerful tail. If a member of the tribe thinks their tail is more powerful than the current Kai, then they will ask for a Tail Cuddle. In this, both Maldary lay their tails against each other and try to suck the other one into their tail. The Maldary that can absorb the other one is the winner and will become, or stay, the Kai. The Kai has absolute control over the tribe and her words are direct commands that all tribal members follow. Most tribes have around 30 members, while the most numerous tribes can have up to 100 members.   In rare cases, tribes of a region come together. This is often in times of crisis like when someone tries to hunt Maldary and a single tribe is unable to fight them off. The Kais of each tribe will fight each other in Tail Cuddles till a single one is elected to be the leader of the temporary tribe confederation. This higher Kai is called Mal and the Mal has control over all tribes that joined the tribe confederation. Such a temporary alliance is only meant to overcome the crisis and will dissolve as quickly as it has formed. A Mal that leads a tribe confederation often has control over hundreds, if not thousands of Maldary at once and is often seen as a danger by nations close by.

Domestication

There are rare cases in which smaller tribes are domesticated by others. Most of these domesticated tribes can be found in the Harems of Almira, as part of bigger harems. To domesticate a tribe, one must defeat the Kai or show them that the benefits of serving are greater than the own freedom. In most cases, a Bottle Genie was the one that was able to submit a Maldary tribe. Domesticated Maldary are good cuddlers and are often sought after for long cold nights. Their cuddle behavior only supports this use, but one must be careful. It is common that in times that a new Kai is elected, that Kai may choose to free her tribe. People who are close by are often absorbed and taken into the tribe as new Maldary then.

Facial characteristics

Maldary have orange to golden eyes with white star-shaped pupils. They have long, fluffy fox ears and golden to orange hair. Their hair is fluffy to the touch, similar to their tails. On their cheeks, Maldary have black lines that run towards their eyes.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The biggest concentration of Maldry is in Nemsam and the surrounding desert. Smaller populations can be found in many regions and nations of southern Atlanesis.

Average Intelligence

Maldary are often seen as not very clever beings. They are simple thinkers who are quick to make decisions without thinking twice about them. The rare clever Maldary are often leading the tribes and guiding their simpler family members. Most Maldary are not able to write and read and most find these things boring and meaningless.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Maldary have exceptional hearing, allowing them to hear sounds far better than most other species. Their eyes allow them to see in near-complete darkness.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Names of Maldary are often shorter versions of their former names. They have no last names. Almanda Seroka would become simply Alma as a Maldary. The exact traditions depend on the tribe.

Beauty Ideals

For a Maldary, the most important beauty ideal is their tail. The fluffiness, the color, and the size are the best indications of the beauty of Maldary. Someone with an incredibly long and big tail, that has a wonderful golden color shines in the light and is fluffy and warm to the touch is seen as beautiful by other Maldary.

Relationship Ideals

Maldaries have no relationships with each other. They do not form tight bonds except their tribal structures. Each member of their tribe is seen as a potential cuddle partner and it is common that during harsh nights, the whole tribe comes together to cuddle through the night and protect each other with their tails.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Maldarian is the most spoken language of the Maldary. It is their tongue that is a simplified version of the old High Atlanteanish. Depending on where a tribe lives, they often also speak the local languages at least on a basic level.

Common Etiquette Rules

Invite to Cuddle
The biggest trust symbol is the invite to cuddle for a Maldary. If a Maldary invites you to a cuddle session, then it means they see you as a potential friend or even future family member. Denying such an invitation is one of the most disrespectful things you can do towards them and it often leads to either a very sad Maldary, or in them getting angry and absorbing you into their tails to teach you a lesson.
Tail Cuddle Duel
If two Maldary have a fight or want to see who is right, then they do a Tail Cuddle duel. During such a duel, both Maldary lay their tails against each other and will then try to absorb the other one. The Maldary who can suck the loser into their tail is seen as the winner and is right. The Kai, the tribal leader, is elected by Tail Cuddle Duell as well.

Common Dress Code

Maldaries enjoy warm colors and light clothes. They often cover their upper bodies in simple robes, but leave their legs and waists uncovered or only mildly covered. The reason for this dress code of the Maldary is simple: They don't want to hurt their tails and most pants or bottom dresses either push onto their tails or they need to push their tails through holes to wear them. Around their ankles, they often wear fluffy socks. Maldary enjoy golden accessories, like pendants or earrings. As the Maldary have no smithing skills or cloth production capabilities in their tribes besides simple repairs, they depend on others to gain their clothes and accessories. Most clothes they wear come from the Harems of Almira, which also influences their dress code heavily with warm, light clothes and bright colors.

History

Origin in Atlantean Times
It was 850 BC in Nemsan that the first Maldaries were created by the military research branch of the Theocracy of Atlantis with the help of artificial bodies and soul insertion by golemancers. They were created for a single simple reason: to hunt escaped slaves. Their fast legs and the absorption abilities of their tails were designed to catch these slaves and bring them back safely to Nemsan or other Atlantean cities. Soon most slave traders had some Maldary under their thumb to make it clear that escape was impossible. It worked well till 610 BC, as the first Maldary batch got a new ability from the golemancers: To transform others into Maldaries. It was meant to easily reproduce them locally and not depend on the small production amount in Nemsan. Creating a golem was not easy and for sure not a cheap thing, so letting these slave hunters' golems reproduce by transforming others was seen as a valid and simple solution. The idea quickly backfired as the Maldary revolted against harsh punishments after transforming several nice guards into Maldaries. The city of Nemsan was quickly engulfed in street fights as the Maldary roamed the districts and absorbed everyone unable to escape.   As the army arrived in 608 BC, the population was mostly transformed into Maldary or fled the city. The following fights killed dozens of Maldary and let the survivors flee into the desert around the city. The Atlantean Empire began to hunt the Maldary and nearly eradicated them. Then the fall of Atlantis happened in 500 BC. The following destruction and Chaos was the perfect ground for the Maldary tribes to take their revenge. Due to their long lifetime, many members of the tribes in 500 BC were already there during the revolt of 610 BC and now saw the perfect opportunity to take back Nemsan, once and for all. They invaded the city in 489 BC and transformed most of the surviving inhabitants into Maldaries.
Modern Times
Maldary tribes can be found all in the desert regions of Atlanesis. They have no recorded history and all who were part of the big revolts and the slave hunts back in the Atlantean Times were long dead. The modern Maldary are nomads who roam from oasis to oasis, always on the search for new friends, new family members, or just some good cuddles through the nights. The nations of Harems of Almira, the Holy Queendom of Kete and the Kingdom of Var all have their ways of handling the nomadic Maldary, which respect no borders. The Harems of Almira mostly treat them well and are seen as friends by most tribes. The Holy Queendom of Kete tries to use them and often trades golden accessories, clothes, and other items with the tribes in exchange for their help in their domestic affairs. It is not uncommon to hire a tribe of Maldary in Kete to take out a rival. The Kingdom of Var fights any Maldary tribe that crosses its borders, often resulting in heavy fights and the retreat of the Maldary.

Historical Figures

Kai. The word Kai, which means Leader or big sister in the tongue of the Maldary, has its origin in the leader of the revolt of the Maldary against their oppressors in 610 BC. Kai was the strongest Maldary back then and led the other Maldary into fighting the Atlantean Empire. She was killed during the punishment campaigns of 608 BC by the Atlantean troops.

Common Myths and Legends

There exist many fairy tails with Maldary in southern Atlanesis. Most often the Maldary is portrayed as a monster in these stories that eat the children who dare to run off too far from their parents. Especially in the Kingdom of Var, the Maldaries are often seen as evil in the local myths and stories. It is different for the Harems of Almira. Due to the many Bottle Genies living there, they have the most truthful legends about the slave-hunting Maldary and their revolts against the oppression of the Atlantean Empire. Most genies see the Maldary as a force of good in modern times and most legends about them are positive in this area.
