Southern Konos River Area
The deserts of Sahiri and Hach are void of life and hostile to most known life, yet strong nations are flourishing here in the Southern Konos River Area. It is all thanks to our great father, the River Konos. He brings life in the form of its water and wetlands. The river Konos is the only reason why there are strong, big nations inside the southern deserts of Atlanesis. The mighty river brings life to the region and allows agriculture to the extent that the nations around it produce more food than they require for their growing population. Several strong nations are laying claims on the waters of the river. The region is dry and hostile to life outside the area around the river and its delta. At the delta and around the southern coast, plenty of fish and other oceanic life exists that allows coastal cities, towns, and villages to live off the sea by fishing.
Geography
The area is flat and has very few hills. The highest peaks are the always-changing dunes of the Sahiri and Hach Deserts. The biggest dunes are over 300 meters high but slowly move through the region. Most constant hills are at best 150 meters high. Most of the region is dry, hot, and hostile to most life. Rock and Sand desert regions are plenty to find here. Around the mighty river Konos is a green belt that splits the two deserts from one another and brings life to the region. The waters create a line of around 100 kilometers in width that is fertile due to the seasonal floodings. In the south, the river splits underground into a vast delta that brings life to an area of over 600 kilometers in width between Lakara and Musaran. Most of the water of the river flows into the Sea of Syl where it brings fertile waters and creates an environment perfect for rich sea life.
Ecosystem
The region's ecosystem must be split into 4 vastly different ones. Each is influenced by natural sources.
Desert Ecosystem
The deserts are dry and hostile to most known life. Besides some wandering nomads, ancient Golems and the followers of Nia, there is only few and mostly small life to find in the sands and between the rocks. The scorching sun and the limited access to water allow only small lifeforms to exist here. These regions are wild and dangerous besides the hostile climate nevertheless. Monsters that were infused by Pink Mist can be found and are the doom for many who dare to cross the deserts. The biggest concentrations of life can be found on the feet of the mighty dunes, as they often block low-hanging clouds and allow small amounts of water to collect on plants and rocks. The life there must be fast to collect it, as the sun will quickly evaporate it after sunrise.Wetlands of Konos Ecosystem
The wetlands around the Konos river is a cultivated landscape with farms that span the horizon. Big wild animals are near non-existent, as the whole region is settled by millions of Humans, Lamias, Sylvan Elves, Nekos and many more sentinal life as well as their subspecies. Farm animals, as well as small pests like mice, complete the ecosystem in this region. The only place where small pockets of bigger wildlife can be found is in the forest regions, as well as the big swamplands of Grov.Sealife Ecosystem
Due to the fertile soil that is washed into the Sea of Syl by the river, there is a strong oceanic ecosystem near the coast. Thousands of different fish and mammals can be found in the waters, allowing the nearby urban areas to live off the sea with their fisher fleets. The region is known for big swarms of fish, but also big sea monsters that sometimes come close to the coast and threaten the fishers as well as the flow of trade.Nemsam Ecosystem
The most special ecosystem of the region exists around the old Nemsan. The ancient city of the fallen Theocracy of Atlantis was once known for its bio-laboratories. Their biggest breakthrough was the creation of the Maldary, who rules over the city and the surrounding land to this day. The area is heavily influenced by the dangerous Pink Mist, which creates new mutations and monsters on a near daily basis. Most trade routes and even adventurers evade the area.Climate
The climate here is warm, near tropical, and vastly different from area to area. In the deserts, the air is dry and hot. Here temperatures can vary between 80° Celsius and -20° celsius over a single day-night cycle. Rain is rare and only forms every few years. The area directly around the river is wet and more temperate with temperatures between 50° and 0° celsius. The air is humid and allows life to flourish. The coastal areas of the south are the most pleasant conditions for most species. The oceans prevent heavy temperature spans and the air has often a temperature between 30° and 5° Celsius. The season storms are the only negative point in this area.
